To anyone who ordered their m9750 with the TV Tuner

You're supposed to get a coaxial adapter to come along with it. I didn't know that until someone on these forums posted in somewhere else. I just called them today and the adapter is on its way.

Yeah without the adaptor to plug your cable in you are SOL. You would think they would make it to where you could screw that cable cord right into the computer like some of the cards..

That's an Arima/Liveview issue. I'm sure they did it because there are different standards over the world, and the screw type connection would be too big and stick out too far for the bay it's in. They're quite a bit bigger than the port that's on the back of the case.

They usually include the adapter with all tv tuners, so you must have been an oversight unfortunately...

I was told they ran out. When I talked to them they knew I didn't have one, but said I would soon.

Does anyone have the 9750 set up with a set top box? Media center wants an "IR control cable". I guess there is a USB cable that transmits a signal to the STB to control the channel. Was I supposed to get that cable too, or is it extra?

you dont need the IR USB controller to change channels just point your remote at the left speaker and it will change your channels... the adaptor cord allows you to screw your cable in to the adaptor and the other end of the adaptor into the computer..

I wasn't able to get this to work with my satellite receiver. It would appear you need a usb connection between the computer and set top box, but I didn't get the cable. My satellite box is old enough that there's no usb input anyway.

I just set the computer to record on channel 3, and use the set top box to set the channel.

He's talking about having his cable box channel change through the computer remote. If you need a set top box to decode cable or satellite signals, there is supposed to be an extra cable so the computer remote changes the set top box channel automatically.

I know the media remote will work without the small USB reciever.

I have a satellite, so in order for the DVR to work media center has to be able to change the channel on the "Set Top Box" (for my sattelite reciever). If you tell media center you have a STB it asks for the "IR Control Cable" and refuses to set anything up without it.

I was just messing around and plugged my s-video from the sat into the 9750. I could see a picture on s-video during set up, but it wants that cable. I'm not too concerned with DVR on it, just wanted to get any picture on it right now. I'm sill missing the Coax adapter, and need that control cable to get a pic through s-video.

So really I was just curious if anybody got the "IR Control Cable" with their 9750? How are you using your 9750 with your set top box?

Thanks Hammerhead,

Yeah, from what I read there is a cable that plugs into your USB port. The other end of the cable transmits an IR signal. I guess you tape the transmitter over the receiver on the Set Top Box. Then ultimately your media center remote changes the channel on your STB. Then DVR and everything else should work also.

It sounds cool (except for the cable running across the room and the tape!). I don't know if I would use all these features, but it looks like you need the cable to get through set up if you want to use the s-video input. I would hope you could unplug the IR Control cable and change channels with the normal remote.

I know if I had the COAX adapter I could use channel 3.

Yeah, that's what I do... Just channel 3, then I set the channel seperately. Kind of makes the programming features worthless.

I would think the cable should be part of the MCE package rather than just the IR sensor with the miniplug that the m9700/9750 doesn't need, it's got the IR sensor built in. Perhaps the set box cable is separate with the OEM package...? I think when I was dealing with that I checked the MCE package online, and the cable might be in the retail setup. Kind of sucks you can't use that feature without chasing down parts though. I think the IR control cable should be included in the package since you can't use the programming features with a set top box without it, and most people use cable or satellite with boxes to descramble the signal. I didn't pursue it though as I rarely use the tv tuner to record except for MotoGP races.

If you can't wait for Alienware to get you a coax adapter, I emailed Lifeview USA, and they said to contact their customer service and you can buy an ntsc adapter for $5. It's smaller than the AW adapter also.

Here's a link to Lifeview's contact page.
