Hello Folks, I need sort of a confirmation that their santa rosa based Macbook Pro (or non Santa rosa based macbook pro) has successfully been in a game environment in Windows without overheating for more than 30 minutes.

Any help provided would be great.
Thx

You could ask Shazza, she just got a new Santa Rosa MacBook Pro and was running F.E.A.R on it, and you might want to ask her if that was run for quite some time.

Hi guys ... sorry for the delay in responding, kaltek. Been busy with grandkids visiting and work stuff.

I haven't had a chance to game extensively on the new MacBook Pro, but I've definitely played LotR online, and GuildWars for an hour or more at a sitting, and I've had no particular issues. The fans do tend to come on, but that's okay with me. And, the notebook heats up to the point where I just put a magazine or book under it when I use it on my lap (usually wearing shorts). This is typical for my other notebooks as well. I do note that this new MBP stays cool during normal use - e.g. surfing and office apps.

Yes I have gamed on my MBP extensively and it has suprised me in so many ways. WOW plays with everything on high for 4 hours raids eith no problems and run 40 to 60 fps. I have played halo 2, shadowrun and lost planet without no problems and perfectly smooth framerates. I am more satisfied with this notebook then my XPS1710 that it replaced .

Man, I can't wait until Gears of War OS X drops, see how that runs on OS X as opposed to Windows, then we can really see how the platfrom will do and hopefully might keep some of the nay-sayers quiet, I get so tired of the "Macs don't have any games" argument, as if that is the only thing that computers are used for.

I don't know about the future of OSX gaming. I have WOW installed on osx as well as vista and vista consistently gets higher frame rates. I have seen open gl tech demo on WOW for leopard and that looks promising but we will see when its finally released.
