Has anyone had problems with the finish wearing off on their new Sony Vaio VGN laptop

Thread Starter
I bought my Vaio laptop in March.
The grey finish on the surround to the keyboard looks very robust but started to wear through to the white plastic underneath almost immediately.
Ditto the coloured surround to the touchpad (and the left click key)...
Has anyone else had the same problem?
I only ask as the supplier is being very unhelpful and I need some ammunition!

Yes, me too, eventually re-covered it with a carbonfibre lookalike plastic and never bought another Sony! In fact, just bought a new HP, and happy with it.

My nice Dell XPS2 gaming laptop has a problem with the pain wearing off of the palm rest where my hands sit. It took a while for it to happen, months, but it's pretty bad after a couple years. I think it's not uncommon on laptops with painted palm rests. This is the reason I appreciate the metal palm rest on my SZ340P.

The paint on the screen edge of my VGN-S4HP as well as the area around S buttons is wearing off. Palm rest is fine tough.

Is it one of the silver ones, Xopher, like the VGN FW series?:-

Any chance of a photo of the wear and tear on yours, Xopher?

I'm thinking of buying one, but will be using it for a fair bit of typing (programming, etc.)

What sort of stuff do you do with your Vaio? Are you a heavy user?

Thanks.

I have a SZ-220 and the finish is completely worn off of the left-click on the palm rest... I'm a heavy user and I guess that is what happens with use and wear.

I now have a HP and no wear is occurring to this one. Sony are crap.

YMMV

I'll never buy another Sony, for this and other reasons to do with poor customer service and quality issues.

This comment is not meant to "bash" anyone posting on this forum. It's my opinion, and I don't see why I cannot express it.

Oh really? I haven't read this thread for several years, but I believe you if you say so. I got an email that someone had posted something here, is how I ended up back here.
