Hibernate Issue (Hibernate option was suddently removed from shutdown list)

Thread Starter
Greetings !

Sorry, I can't help it, my rant of the day :

Microsoft is crap, Alienware is worst ... they haven't put any real effort on support Vista for their products ... most of the drivers (if they exist) are real crap and way out of date ...

Here is my real problem :

HIBERNATE OPTION HAS DISAPEARED !!! Yup, suddently, without any warning, it just disapeared, so I lost the mobility of my notebook ... I need to fully shutdown / reboot each time I use my notebook. I don't want to use sleep or whatever else, Hibernate is just the right option for me, used to work great, but now it not even available ... Any solution ?

Another problem I have :

Printer spooler closed each time I boot, and can't restart it, it just automatically close saying Spooler SubSystem App was closed. If I try to restart the service it automatically close ... I run Vista Ultimate with Office 2007 (but Office 2007 is also running along hibernate on my GF inspiron 6400 very well without any troubles). I've also try to uninstall any extra printer services ... deleted any .spl of whatever files ...

And the final problem I have :

When I boot, boot time is painfull, I have to wait a 30-45 seconds blackscreen after bios screen and before Vista loading screen ... no real activity doing on, just waiting there ... I don't have UAC or any anti-virus on startup ...

Thanks !

To make hibernation available, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
2. In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.
3. When you are prompted by User Account Control, click Continue.
4. At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate on, and then press ENTER.
5. Type exit, and then press ENTER to close the Command Prompt window.
haven't found an answer for spooler error yet but workin on it

I'd consider doing a reinstall of windows. When functions start to disappear, I usually suspect a virus. More likely a software issue than hardware...

Before that though, check the power options settings to be sure something didn't get changed. Start > Control Panel > performance and maintenance > power options. Make sure you have the appropriate power scheme, and check that hibernate is enabled, and that you have the right advanced options enabled.
