Don't laugh...

Hi, this is my first time here so be gentle...

I have an ancient Compaq Presario 1219 laptop which I love, but I'm not a techy so forgive me if this question sounds stupid. If I bought a wireless card and slotted it into the PCMCIA slot, would it allow me to use a wireless connection? This particular machine has been through a lot of writing time with me and still gets a lot of use even though I do have a newer HP for travelling times. I suspect the answer will be no but until then I live in hope.

Thanks for whatever.

if you have a slot, and it comes with an install driver disk, you should be ok once you install the drivers for your wireless card. What OS (operating system) are you using out of curiosity? XP? and if so what version?

If you have a local computer shop, get them to install one for you, should not really be much more expensive than just buying one from them (some may even do it free as long as you get the card from them).

Thank you for the replies. I do have the slot, ev, but the OS is as old as the machine - Win95. On the new machine I run XP. I don't want to upgrade the old OS because it allows use of Word Perfect 6.0. None of the later operating systems do. It also lets me play some antiquated games. Hangs head in shame.

Kensplace - the only computer shops are PCWorld and Currys. Keen to sell, but not so helpful on after-service. If there's a wireless card that would work with/recognise Win 95 I will buy it like a shot.
Thanks to both of you.
