Questions about m9700 and m9750

I'm thinking about getting either a m9700 or m9750 since my current laptop is really getting slow when it comes to gaming. So what I want to know is which would be the better choice? It'll be my first Alienware if you want to know.

m9750 will give you better performance hands down because of the dual core CPU, also if you want to fork out the extra money get the SLI configuration. also the m9750's 7950GTX GPU is almost equivalent if not better to 2 of the the m9700's 700GOgs GPU's. So the m9750 with SLI and dual core CPU is the better option by far.

Well that's sounds really good if not excellent. Is it possible for the m9700 to at least either match or come closer to the m9750's performance? Also I realize that is unrelated to my original question but would anybody happen to know where I can find an effective laptop cooler for the m9700 and m9750?

well the 3Dmark06 scores say alot,
I've seen a m9700 pull about 5500, and a 9750 about 9000. around there.
But the main reason would be the dual core processor, alot more future proof and ALOT faster than the single core found in the 9700. If you're planning on keeping it for a long time and running vista the dual core will keep you going for a long time and will run everything alot better. But if you want you can wait until the 7950 has DX10 cards in it so you wont have to upgrade. I don't know when that will be though :/
My 9700 runs FEAR and Oblivion just fine with pretty high settings, It runs Battlefield 2 With settings maxed out great. But I'm sure as games become multi-threaded (you need a dual core processor to run correctly) You're gonna need the better processor in the 9750, and the GPU's too.

If the 9750 will get DX 10 sooner or later then I think I'll wait for that. If you don't mind could you help with the custom specs I've chosen for when I order my 9700?
Here it is:

Turion ML 24
Dual 256MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS - SLI Enabled or the 512
Windows Vista Home Premium
2 GB DDR
RAID 1 80 GB 5,400 RPM
Conspiracy Blue

I'm hoping to play SupCom with it so I hope it can handle it.

My recommendation would be don't spend your money on a 9700... the 9750 is a far superior machine and will be far more capable of playing Supreme Commander decently.

Razgriz - I have an m9700, and love it. But, you'd be better off purchasing the m9750 with a single video card for now. SLI still doesn't play well with Vista, so that's another reason to wait on two cards.

The m9750s seem to be shipping quickly, so can't see much reason to favor the m9700 at this time. I originally thought the m9700 might have an advantage wrt heat - but all the reports on the m9750 see pretty favorable in this regard.

Alright then I guess I'll get the m9750 then. One last question though, I checked nVidia's website and they have beta SLI drivers for Vista so I would like to know if those drivers work properly for the m9750. Oh and thanks to everyone who posted in this thread for helping a newbie like me.

The m9750 plays SupCom wonderfully. Get it. You'll love it.
If you want maximum gaming performance out of the box then Vista can't touch XP in that regard, beta drivers or not. So if this is going to be primarily a gaming machine plan on dual booting or just running XP.

So the beta drivers won't really help? Also I think I'll dual boot Vista and XP.
