Installing SATA Hard Drive (Inspiron 1720)

I purchased SATA 7200 RPM hard drive from newegg.com

http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16822146226

My notebook is the brand-new Inspiron 1720 which only supports SATA.

The problem is that the hard drive didn't come with a "connector" (or "gender changer" or whatever... I don't what's this thing called).

So, I am unable to connect the hard drive to my notebook. I contacted newegg.com and they said it doesn't come with the connector.

Anyone know where I can get this connector ???

I tried googling like "SATA connector 2.5-inch drive", but I cannot find any information.... Also, what's this thing called exactly ???

Thank you.

I kind of figured this out..... I think I need to purchase Hard Drive "Caddy" for Inspiron... (which also includes the "Connector")

Are you intstalling it in addition to the existing hard drive, or replacing it? If you are swapping them over then simply take the connector off the old one and onto the new one.... if you are looking to have 2 in there then yes, you would require a caddy.

I ordered the Caddy, and finally received it today.....

However..... it didn't come with the Connector (i.e., Pin Adapter).....

Does anyone happen to know the Part Number for this ?? (It's SATA drive)

dell SATA Notebook hard drives do not need an adapter, just place in caddy & push it in the hard drive slot

Actually, in the case of the 1720, the hard drives do have a specialty connector. The 1720's hard drive bays do not let you push the drives in conventionally. They drop in straight down and so need a connector that supports dropping in.

You said in your post on notebookforums.com that you had bought a hard drive caddy for an additional hard drive in an Inspiron 1720. Can you tell me where you bought it and, more importantly, the part number for the item? Thanks for your help! Knox

Good question...

Overall, you need 2 main parts: C7586 and XK231. Search for these Dell part numbers (on this forum and elsewhere)...
