integrated graphics...

I've never had a laptop with an integrated graphics card but was looking into purchasing one in the Inspiron 1420. I could use the extra battery life and I won't be doing much gaming on it. But I'm curious about playing DVDs or using photoshop or premiere or flash...do these things rely on the GPU at all or is it mainly CPU and I won't really notice the difference?

Most of those things don't use GPU. DVD can benefit from a GPU, but I assume Intel included that feature in their gpus as well.

Unless you're doing games or 3d modeling, graphic card really has limited uses for every day stuff like email, web surfing, or even photoshop for that matter. DVDs don't normally depend on a good video card unless you're talking about blu-ray, hd-dvd or hd-videos but even then, a low/mid end vid card is sufficient enough.

integrated GPU sounds fine for your needs.
