latitude d600 pcmcia port problem. (noob)

hi all!

my apologies for a noob/stupid question, but don't know what to do now... ((

got: latitude d600, 1.4ghz, 512 ram, bios a16, xp pro recently reinstalled.

problem: trying to use pcmcia slot for a firewire (ieee 1394) card - laptop does not recognize it at all. (( most recent drivers from dell site installed (o2micro oZ711ec1 smartcardbus controller). tried reinstalling drivers, deleting pcmcia drivers in device manager and reinstalling, rebooting - no luck.

card does get recognized on a different dell laptop.
dunno whether pcmcia slot ever functioned... (refurb computer, never tried this slot before)

what r my options? is there an obvious trick i am simply missing d/t my noob status with computers? (like turning the slot "on" somewhere? ) is there any way to figure out if my pcmcia slot is simply not working? (no other pcmcia card available to try and compare ) are there different drivers/etc. to try?

sorry for stupid question!

thx a lot in advance for your time! would really appreciate any help/suggestions!

regards,
cherniy

Does the slot work with any other card? If it doesn't it might be bad. I have an old D600 mainboard here that's beyond repair, but the PCMCIA slot should still be good. I can send you the slot itself (it just screws onto the motherboard). I'd just ask for my shipping costs in return.

cannot find out whether the slot itself is bad - no other card avail to compare.

took the slot out today, apparently the second pin column on each side is lower than other pins around (apprx. 2mm) is it supposed to be this way? tried to push them out with no success.

would be more than grateful if u could send your pcmcia slot my way! )) would u accept paypal?

my email is cherniy.strannik at gmail.com
plz drop me a word to figure out the details, ok? (address etc.)

once again, deepest thx!!!

regards,
cherniy

Yeah, the pins shouldn't be depressed AT ALL. They should all be even with each other. I'll e-mail you in the morning to get your details about sending you the PCMCIA socket.
