I play DVDs through my laptop regularly - but just of late the system has been driving me nuts. The audio level on DVD playback is falling away after any sudden 'spike' in the natural sound recording - e.g. when the soundtrack includes the sound of machinery, high-pitched metal on metal, gunshots, etc., immediately afterwards the volume level automatically drops so that for a few seconds the normal sound level of the soundtrack music, spoken word, etc is almost inaudible until the system gains confidence in the level and allows it to creep up again. I'd like to turn off this automatic audio level control so that the speakers can play the soundtrack as it was intended! Has anyone else met this challenge and fixed it, without having to go buy external audio equipment?
