Ok good news and bad news. What do you want first? Ok ill start with the bad news...

I ordered the 8790 without RAID config and no OS. I popped my xp disk in and setup started up for xp. Then it says that there was no hard drive detected. This must be why G-Omaha recommended to check the RAID switches. I think it can't detect the hdd because it is looking for the RAID config because I assume that the switch is set to RAID. Well before I even tried installing the os I took the hard drive plate off and looked for the switches. I couldn't find it. Now I am forced to find it. Wish me luck on this...and if you have advice and know where the RAID switch(es) is/are please let me know!

and now on to the good news...

NOT ONE DEAD PIXEL!

Need help in finding the switch. About how big is it? What color is it? Is it more on the 1st hdd bay or more on the 2nd hdd bay?

Look in chapter 7 of the manual. My eyes are relatively bad and I have a hard time discerning where it is exactly.

Put them both down (off). Reset is the power button - hold it down for a few seconds.

sorry for all the questions, but i have a few more

1. How do you check the specs of the video card. I know what it is, i just want to verify. Because somewhere in the BIOS i thought i saw it said that the video memory was 128. Anyway to check the specs of the video card from xp?

2. How do you check the amount of battery life left? As in %?

3. Besides installing the video card drivers and setting the resolution and setting to 32 bit, are there any other settings I need to mess with before playing games i.e. counterstrike, battlefield 1942, far cry...etc

You can check on your video card by right clicking on the desktop, go to settings, and it will say what kind of video card you have (underneath display). Your battery life should be in your task bar (next to your windows clock). As for the games, they should work just fine after you installed the latest video drivers. Good luck!

After installing all the drivers, I still got lags here and there while playing battlefield vietnam and call of duty , of course i dont have the comp now, but is anyone out there experiencing the same thing? While I had it, I was running the games at 1152 X 864 with everything (details, etc...)maxed out. I am thinking of reordering 8790 again after I got my refund.

Hey Lyte, how long does your computer take to detect the hard drives after you moved the dip switches? Does it wait at all? Mine sits there displaying a rotating cursor for about 35 seconds or more until it sees the hard drive in ATA mode.

Where can I find the latest video card drivers for the ATI Mobility 9700 256MB M11? Is it the video drivers on the sager website/support/drivers?

SEMC, i get the "Detecting <rotating cursor here>" for exactly 11 seconds, then it loads the OS.

Who was it that was getting the "pink artifacts"? GSminardi, or G-Omaha? Niether? Well I played far cry for about 30-45 mins yesterday and so NO pink artifacts. Then I played Counterstrike (with like a 2-hour break between Far Cry and CounterStrike) and after about 15 mins of playing I saw a hint of "pink artifacts" it was flickering and a bit transparent. I didn't get to play longer because I had to go, but I am worried about the pink artifacts.

Well I am going to a 24-hour LAN this weekend so this will be a good chance to test this notebook for long periods of gaming, and see if the pink artifacts issue gets worse, or goes away.

I scored a 3379 on the 3dmark03 utility. Is this good? bad? average? I haven't over-clocked anything.

it was gsminardi w/ the pink artifacts.
