IBM better than Dell ??

Hi,

I am a Dell customer for many year, I buy at least 1 new laptop each year.
Now I am kinda fed up with my 2 latest Inspiron's that died on me after 6 months.

I would gladly try the new T61, adding 4Gb of RAM in it but I never tried IBM before.
I know about the build quality, I also know about such a poor design.

Can you IBM users tell me what I should expect in terms of performance, battery life ?

I use heavy applications and some image processing software like Photoshop a lot.

I have a R50e, its rugged as hell and survived one and a half years of study abroad in the Middle East. While I cannot guarantee that your's will have similar capabilities, I am pleased with the durability and battery life of this notebook.

Yes!!! Indeed Thinkpads are better than Dell´s, no matter than Dell´s displays are much better than Lenovo´s. I have had working my T60 for 48 hours of continuous hard processing without any fault. Overall performance is excellent, low noise and heathing. Average battery life and a sturdy case with inner spill protection and disk insulation make this brand a real winner, no matter its classical looks... Notebooks aren´t meant to show off or are they?

I think it's general consensus that Thinkpads are made to last, provide excellent ergonomics, are generally somewhat limited in features compared to most consumer laptops (which reveals their professional market orientation) and are expensive as hell.

IBM without a doubt.
I work on about 20 Dells a week, and in all the years I have been doing PC service I have seen MAYBE 5 IBMs.

It's the only brand so far that I will buy besides Sager.

Why are you comparing Inspirons to the T61 (mainstream home user vs. work notebook line) check out the Dell latitudes which are more comparable to the Lenovo T series) I agree the T series are great notebook as said above but lets compare apples to apples here.
