Sup fellas. Its been a long while since I posted on NBF. But I'll start making a habbit of it. Ever since strafeRight.com started, I started posting on that... Anyways...
I started thinking. Am I the only one that thinks Dell is quite a noob company. Yes, you get very nice equipment, but what the hell, you should for a laptop that is always way overpriced. What I'd like to know is, how many people would rather get a Dell notebook (or desktop), than just order everything custom off say, TigerDirect or Newegg. Keep this in mind while your at it... They use Intel processers instead of AMD. AMD has always been better to me. Since the processor and graphics card is all you really need to know for gaming, I'll give you these specs.

Comparisons:
7950 GT Video Card 512MB ($149.99; Newegg > 399.99; Dell)

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.33 Ghz ($199.99; Newegg > $602.85; Dell)

2 GB of RAM ($160.99; Newegg > $225.99; Dell)

Dell = about $1,299
Newegg = about $511

Whoa! And you mean to tell me you'd rather buy from Dell. Imagine if you got a whole desktop! That was only the video card, processor, and RAM that I compared! All I'm saying is, its worth it to just by everything custom off of Newegg, or TigerDirect (if your going to game). Later, guys.

Are you comparing Dell laptop GPU vs a desktop GPU? You do realize that Neweggs GPU is not going to fit in Dell XPS laptop right?

As for pricing, you just have to do some research yourself and shop around. Retail price on XPS has been always bit high, but there are plenty of choices you can go from Dell.

You can buy E1705 with dedicated GPU, and upgrade the GTX yourself.

You can get XPS from Ebay from a reputable seller, or just call dell sales and ask for a good price (this really depends on when you call, and who you talk with).

You can also get an M90 with 2500M card (basically same as GTX).
M90's standard warranty is 3 years, and they are usually cheaper than XPS. You can even save more if you go on Ebay or Dell outlet.

FYI, I got my M90 from Ebay, brand new, 1450 shipped when Dell had it at about 2600 bucks.


P.S. Hope you realized you seemed like total Noob on your comparison.

Yeah as mentioned before how can you possibly make a linear comparison between how much desktop parts cost on newegg to the upgrade prices on dell's xps notebook options? That doesn't make any sense at all.

If you were simply trying to make a comparison for build-your-own desktop vs. getting a dell xps, then yeah of course building it yourself will be cheaper. Obviously people buy dell's xps systems (and from other vendors for that matter) for a reason, be it that they want the warranty support or the simple satisfaction of having someone else put it all together for you. People pay premiums for what they see value in which isn't the same for everyone. I mean I personally don't see value in say paying $500 for a 200MHZ increase in clock speed for something, but someone else might. Clearly it looks like you're not seeing that value with a XPS system and you're of course entitled to your own opinion and I respect that.

If the purpose of this thread was to inform people of how much cheaper building one's own desktop is vs. getting a XPS with similar/identical specs, then that's one thing, but the comparison you are drawing has little base or warrant to it. If you're trying to make an argument for something make it a bit more realistic to consider.

Guys these were not comparing notebook prices to desktop prices. I was going to compare building a notebook off Newegg, to building a notebook off Dell. I put the price in there for the laptop because of what I was going to do before. I must have skipped over a lot when I wrote this. Sorry that I mixed you guys up. I edited the post if you want to re-read it. It now states the point that I was trying to get across in the first place.

The prices you posted reflects desktop parts though.

I have no idea which GTX you are using, or which companys laptop it's compatible with, and I'm pretty damn sure T7600 alone is about 500-600 bucks from them.

i think your comparison is pretty crazy. I am a huge fan of newegg and yes their prices rock the house. but when it comes to a laptop for the absolute best deal of price/performance ratio you cant beat a dell.
what you need to do is wait for the awesome dell coupons. these coupons are almost always around and make a very good dell laptop affordable.
I remember when i bought my dell xps2 laptop with a couple stackable coupons and got something like 40-45% off !! out the door was about $1700 for a maxed out gaming laptop.

ppl go 2 dell for a pc they dont have to configure themselves. you pick the parts, they do the legwork.

if ur gona newegg a comp u gota have the experience to buy all the necessary parts and install it.

im not sure id say dell is a 'noob' company. However i might understand you saying this if u build pc's by urself, as u have enough experience to where you can save a few bucks and do it urself
