Cheap Computers

I went ahead and did some configurations on some of the sites that are advertised in PC gamer, and man do they come LOADED for around 2800 bucks or LESS, with 3 year warranties. There HAS to be SOME kind of catch right? I added so many options from temperature monitors, liquid cooling, etc, and the value just looks incredible.

Has anyone ever bought from one of these..."shady priced" companies? Experiences?

NOT that I would, but I'm just asking because I can't name one person whos actually owned anything from most of these which makes me wonder how they stay in business? Are some of them just people who order parts whole sale, build, and ship from their house or something?

Looked at ibuypower for one,

it was

Quad Core 2.66
Thermaltake case
1000 watt silverstone PS
ATI X2900 XT 512mb etc
2 GB Corsair Performance Ram
Vista Ultimate
dual 160 gb rapotrs RAID 0
2 DVD burners, one with light scribe
Sound Blaster Fatality gamer card
rush build/delivery for 50 bucks
temp reader/monitor
cathodes
upgraded cooling on the processor

it was 2850 shipped

just seems like 1200 too cheap.

i cant speak for myself as i have not owned nor purchased from such companies. However, before ordering my Alienware, i have done intensive research on reliability, product quality, support etc... While every brand has its share of horror stories, places like ibuypower, cyberpowerinc.. etc... which feature really low prices, seem to have more.

check out this pretty dated review of one of their product and its service that come with it

the link is linked to the end of the review(conclusion) which highlights the important aspect of their experiences with iBuypower.

LOL, Duke you just wish you could go hang out in GenMay.

I'll agree with the above posters stay away from those companies and build your own.....then the desktop would prob cost $2000.

no not part of the original... i was a member of that group for probably about a year... participated in a lot of discussion, but the mods and admins there are close minded to people who don't post as often as much as the other members... i should post some of the e-mails i had between Kyle and I. the guys a tool, and banned me "because he didn't like my attitude" because i was asking questions in the QUESTIONS section...

lol, yeah the "forum feedback and questions section", i've never seen a response in there that didn't go along the lines of "that is the way it is so deal with it or go to a different computer forum"

thats generally a hint that the owners of the site don't give a shit about the content or members but all they care about is revenue... NBF is the opposite of that.
