Compaq Presario won't boot

Hello,

I have a stock Presario M2010US. Worked well for 2 years, never any problems. Over the weekend the laptop had 2 blue screens of death, not turning on/booting after the second BSOD.

Here are my observations:

Blank black screen after power up, power led on, no HDD led activity. CPU fan spins up for a second and then stops.

Here is what I already tried:

Tried running off the battery only. Tried running through AC adapter only (with battery removed). Tried reseating the RAM. Opened up the bottom hatches for hard drive and all cables seem connected well. Hard to judge if the HDD spins up -- cant really tell.

So now I am out of ideas... I originally thought the HDD burned out. But when I discovered that CPU fan turns on for a second and stops, I suspect the CPU.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Just one comment: the cpu fan coming up isn't a function of the CPU, but actually a function of another chip--either a dedicated HWM chip (basically handles low-speed peripherals + does hardware monitoring/fan control/power sequencing) or possibly, with the latest Intel chipsets, the southbridge could do the fan control.

I am 90% sure that your motherboard has just kicked the bucket we see alot of laptops that lightup and or fans spin but nothing happens. one thing to ask first does your laptop work on external display such as a external CRT or LCD Monitor?
