Sager 8790, Safe Mode and ATI driver update >>> please help !!!

HI, Guys !

Just got my 8790 today, picked up from the factory in L.A. but I am having a hell of a time trying to install the newest version of the catalyst drivers for the ATI 9700. Quite a few people seem to have the same problem, but I haven't found one satisfying answer to that question. Basically, every time I try to reinstall the driver, I am being told that there is and "INF Error - Video Driver not found", and that I should try to setup the adapter with a standard vga driver first. Correct me if I am wrong, but the easiest way (and the only one it appears) seems to be to restart in safe mode and install the new driver from there.

> Problem : I cannot get to the Safe Mode screen during bootup. I tried pressing F8 at all stages of boot, nothing worked. Does anyone have a clue how to get to this freakin' safe mode option ? The only driver XP lets me install are the ones Sager provides (version 6.14.10.6414).

Thank you guys in advance. It's probably something stupid, but I am too tired to consider that an option.

search is your friend. it's been documented several times. But I'll save you a step. go to www.omegacorner.com those are better drivers anyway. Well same drivers but tweaked a little or a lot depending on your config. They install just fine no issues at all. Oh yeah welcome to the forum.

The CAT suites ATI releases do not support the mobility radeon because these cards are not documented in the package .inf and .ini files. Modifying these files will allow you to easily install the drivers.

By not support I meant just in the sense of the card description not being written in the .inf and .ini files. Installing the CAT suites from ATI on mobility cards is no problem afaik :]

I downloaded the drivers from www.omegacorner.com Installed them and now when I go to my device manager it shows my video card to be an ATI 9600 instead of the ATI 9700 that came with my 8790. What omega drivers do you guys use for your 8790? And where can I find ii? I tried searching these forums...but I can't find it.

The omega drivers might have some identification issues which will prolly be fixed in the next release. Don't worry about it. Your card is still an M11 (9700).

I believe everyone uses the 4.3 omega's
