My 8890 died HD RAID0 ?

My 8890 died after 3 years. Left the computer running and came back a few hours later and it was off. Tried to start it, but it’s gone. The light is off as well (but the one on the power brick is on). After reading a few (thousand) posts here I sadly realized that it is the mobo not the power supply. That sucks. I can't believe all the people this happened to. At least I got a good 3 years.

So, my question is does anyone know what other machines I can plug my raid0 configured hard drives into to recover some data?

I can’t imagine the hds were made only to work with the 8890 as the guy at sager was leading me to believe. I asked him if they had any new laptops that my current hds could plug into. He said “No.” That may be true, but they should? plug into something besides my dead 8890 (or another one)? Anyone?

BTW if you happen to live near CT and have a machine I could do this with maybe we could make a deal.

Well if you want to dirve to Charlotte, NC...
Probly better finding a data recovery service.

I am hoping to just retrieve my data and give someone a sweet deal on all the parts w/ out spending any money.

If I can't find any one else willing to help, I may have to take a vacation to NC.

Asheville or Wilmington is nice... not much to recommend Charlotte.
That was pretty much a joke.
Data recovery is probably cheaper than travelling here.
iirc, the drives are standard pata on a promise controller.

Data recovery seems to be about $125 per hour average. I found a place that thinks they can do it in 2-3 hours. That is so close to the price to send to sager for a new MB.

I posted an add on craigslist, so I am hoping someone near me will exchange some time for parts. Otherwise, I have to decide if I will spend $375 for data recovery, or $400-500 for a new MB.

it is a promise fastrak lite, shouldn't be too hard to find.
you can buy a promise card for under $100.

Yep, you guys are right I think this may be my best option unless someone close to CT steps up. So, to clarify...

I need this:

Promise PCI IDE FastTrak100 Ultra ATA100 RAID Controller

And two of these:

2.5" Hi-Speed USB 2.0 ION Drive Enclosure III (GHE425U)

Then...

I take my raid controller out of my desktop, put in the Promise, enable it for 0, set bios to boot to usb drives, then plug in the two drives and boot up. And hope it works.

Shouldn't I get an adapter(s) vs trying to boot to external (usb/firewire) drives?

i'm not familiar with the enclosures.
i'd have tried adapters.
