Ok i dont quite know the tech lingo on processor speed changes, but i have a P4 2.8ghz but it isnt running at that speed, instead its running at 2.3ghz.

i cant remember where i spotted this but im sure its correct, id like to know how to get it back up to 2.8, and if it is 2.8 how do i find out exactly how fast it is running

Im doing 3d grafix and need the speed, oh and also im a lil pissed off that the far cry demo doesnt work on my np8890

any shareware or free ware, utilities or just windows tips that could help me out?

It's probably your laptop trying to save battery. The speed of the cpu on an 8890 is set at the time of booting, if it happens to be running off batteries at that time it'll clock down to 2.3 or similar. Easiest way to get back to 2.8 is to plug it in and do a cold boot (shut down then start up again). If you want you can turn off or adjust this feature in the BIOS setup.

Not sure why the far cry demo doesnt work, it should, although I havent got around to trying it myself yet. Do you just mean it's slow because of your 2.3 clock?

You can use http://www.cpuid.com/download/CG-ICS952607.zip to underclock or overclock the cpu on the 8790 also.

Do a search for CPUID or SANDRA by SISoft. You can do more with CPUID as far as controlling the processor (over/under clocking), but you'll get more general information from Sandra.

thx guys, as far as the far cry thing goes, it gets into menu screen, and then it lets me change settings i put it to lowest to see if it would work, but the second i push start game in the menu it crashes, then when i finaly am able to escape it, there is some error on teh dectop and asks me if i want to report the problem to teh far cry people like a kind of beta testing problem sending thing. bah pissed me off big time, but hidden and dangerous is a dream, even on 1600 1200 native res, so i have been ok. i see what u mean about the battery boot, makes sence, il try get more info on that software and the bios changes,

thx again ;cheers;

Video driver issue, perhaps w/ Far Cry, I'm guessing. Other than that, you might want to uninstall/reinstall the demo. Maybe it got wonked up somewhere. With Windows, you just never know what's going on inside.
