cold it be true? dx10 in my vary own alienware? - Page 4

Are you sure it fits in there right? there might be an extra something that goes in somewhere that you system might not have? :/

The posts are probably wired differently. I've seen that done before with Dell cards.

Not sure how to get around that other than rewiring the interface, but I don't know how to figure out what wire goes where...

Maybe you can find some wiring diagrams from Asus somewhere from their mobos and cards...?

This sucks! Sorry Man!

You were so positive that it was going to work. But there was a definite 50/50 here. I was really holding thumbs for you...

It's only money man! If you want something more powerful, sell your lappy and new card and get a new lappy...

At least the snowboarding looked Great!!!

The contacts (pins) in the interface plugs are individual circuits. If the interfaces are wired differently they won't be able to communicate the right info.

Dell worked with ATi with the MR9800 for example, and they got ATi to wire the interface to other than standard configuration that would only work with Dell motherboards. AW tried to adjust the interface to get the MR9800 to work with the old m5500(766) but they weren't able to get it to run right, so chances you can do so are pretty slim.

I imagine the "Asus only" comment about the vid card meant it was wired to interface with Asus mobile motherboards, so it may not work in other systems...

ok yea its only money. i think i am gona get the G1S or the m9700 but i'm not sure wich becasue i want the preformance of the 9700 but the g1S's cpu mops the florewith the m9700's amd single core and the 7900's are dx9 only so.. gimme some recomendations i guess.

I would suggest the base m9750 minimum requirements and upgrade from there over time.

My second suggestion would be the following: Sager Force NP2090 from here:http://www.xoticpc.com/product_info....oducts_id/1876

The above Sager/Compal IFL90 has SR and DX10 at an incredible price! I've heard only good things about this model, Plus you can throw in a custom paint job or skin at an affordable price.

Let us know what you decide...

wow that looks like an awsome PC for the price but i decided i am gona go all out with aspending limit of about 3200 canadian so about 3050 american. i might go for the 9700 and just put the best proc so it isent bottlenecked and 2 256 7900's. I think i want to get an alienware because even thou my alienware's card isent that good... overall I realy like alienware and have bean getting grate support and quality out of them so i think its either the 9700 or the G1S but I might wate till alienware comes out with a new 17 inch SLI comp that uses 8700M GT's and get that

I agree, If you can hold out or put together some xtra cash, AW is the way to go...I'm personally holding out for the m9750. I do wish it had "color" options like the m9700 though ...

Zach:

Sorry very much for your bad luck. Yes, I bought my card from mxm-upgrade.com, so I had a guarantee that he tested it in various laptops, and that it worked. And a money back guarantee.

Sorry man, that really sucks. I was about to order one!

Thanks for telling us all about your experience.

Zach,

I'd seriously consider the m9750 due to it's superior processor if you want it to last long term. The m9700 is a good system at a good price, but to move from that to a dual core processor will mean a new system again.

I'm also pretty sure the m9750 will offer DX10 vid cards in the future, but I'm not at all confident the m9700 will.

You mean the m9750? The m9700 is bottlenecked IMHO, I would get the m9750 hell I should have gotten one :[ Plus alienware already announced the 8xxx series cards in the m9750 in the near future and I think they are gonna use 8700m GT it's in one of the threads here. Go take a look... Really the m9750.

The C90 card has been tried on a number of platforms now, including another ASUS MXM notebook and it didn't fly. nVidia has been unable/unwilling to provide any usefull info on the actual reason.

Needless to say I'm looking for other options

Alienware is currently testing the GeForce 8 series on the m5550, I read this at the support site. http://support.alienware.com/Forum_P...?PostID=556104 Great news for all of us indeed.
Man, I hope that's true I wouldn't mind a bit of extra power in my 5550i. Even though it works pretty well already.
Even if it's true, I would probably wait a while before upgrading the video card. If it ain't broke, don't fix it...well..yet anyways.
Mine is working pretty well so far as well, no problems yet.
