While perusing the internet for various things, I came across a product called invisibleSHIELD, and it seems they just released a set for the m9700. I have heard great things about this shield being almost literally scratch proof, etc. http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/ALIM970.html

My question is, the m9750 is advertised as being scratch resistant, so do you think this is necessary, and I guess the more important question is whether a shield fitted for the 9700 would fit the 9750, which I have read share the same chassis? Thanks in advance for the info/advice.

P.S. Phase 4 is taking FOREVER, damn lack of the 7950 GTXs...

I will say, that the feel of the 9750 is unlike any other Alienware, or laptop i have ever had. It almost feels like a rubbery coat is on it, which is probably due to its claim of being scratch free. I wouldn't bother with this shield product.

i think that the shield you are looking at is for the screen not the chassis.
The alienware chassis is scratch resistant. I don't think the same is true for the screen.

Are the 9700 screen dimensions the same as that of the 9750. I think a screen protector would be a great idea.

but screen protects can often be annoying, more glossy, less colorful against the screen. unless you're moving a lot, or poking your screen, the product is just a gimmick.

I say buy it and write a review for the rest of us.
But seriously, how rough are you gonna be with your precious? The screen on the m9750 is pretty resistant, definately more than my ipod. I can poke it with my fingernail and not make a scratch, so I think any abuse that would damage your screen this protector probably won't help with.
But hey, there's something to be said for peace of mind.

My worry was more about when you have it closed and in a bag. I have had laptops have their screens damaged by rubbing against the keyboard, when the lid is down. It takes a long time but it happens.

I'm guessing this was in an older laptop.

Manufacturers have got a lot better at protecting their screens.

Its not a screen shield, its for the body of the laptop. The "standard shield" types usually cover the top lid & the wrist rests. But yeah, buy it, review it, and let us know! Guinea Pig ftw!

You got a point there. I have seen a scratch on m9700 but not on the screen but the side of the lid (the black in color for m9700). The side is a lil bit deeper when u close the lid so the screen wont touch the keyboard at all. (in order words, the outer side of the screen; the black area where there's webcam and alienware logo covers the screen. The screen is few mm inside the black area so it wont touch the keyboard while the lid is closed). I hope this help.

I ordered the same thing for my Razr cell phone and have to say the stuff is amazing! I finally peeled it off after about 6 months because the edges were peeling off (in and out of my pocket constantly) but this is a good Idea! Im gonna order one...

I tried to scratch it with a car key and I couldn't do it... without damaging the phone by pressure from the key...

Later,
Jake

Thanks for all the advice/info guys. I think I'm going to wait until the laptop arrives, then see what I wanna do. Or I might order it from my cellphone and see if it's worth the hype.

Oh, by the way, randomly they switched my account from a regular sale to a corporate sale, but for anyone wondering, the corporate customer service is MUCH better; my rep was definitely a native english speaker, very helpful/informative/clear, and didn't even put me on hold once! I'm not sure how it got changed, but I'm not complaining. She said that they received or are shortly receiving (can't remember) the barebones LCDs and mine should be shipped out on or before the 13th of August, which was my original estimated ship date.
