Help!! 7700 died AGAIN!!

Hi, I jsut installed a brand new motherboard from rjtech, and my laptop was finally working for a while. However last night, it decided to shut off while I was writing an email.

Now it turns on, goes through POST, however the caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights stay on and start flashing, then eventually it shuts off after 30 secs or so. Help!! I don't know what is wrong this time, and I don't think its the new mobo cause it posts and the screen works.

UPDATE: FIXED!! The old ram died i believe, luckily i had new crucial ram to replace it with.

you running Linux or Windows?

if linux, (or unix based)

It is possible you are having kernel panics. When the kernel panics, it will often send a message to the keyboard LEDs to blink. If your kernel is new enough, it may even be talking to you in Morse code. It's likely related to hardware, and your CPU temperature could be the problem, but there are other possibilities.

Windows XP pro. They all blink at the same time, about once every sec or 2. Im guessing its the cpu heatsink.
can you count how many times they blink? (I'm guessing 7)

Is the system under warranty?

It may be either a heat issue, relating to hard drive failure. Or your memory is not seated properly.

If you laptop is still under warranty, call AW support to make sure this will not void your warranty. If not,

1. remove AC power
2. remove battery
3. take out memory slot, and reseat it
4. put AC back on (or battery)
5. power up

That will fix the memory problem. But if it is a hard drive failure, you may need to buy a new hard drive.

Good luck.

I didn't think its a hard drive failure, because the windows boot selection screen comes up (safe mode, normal, etc.) and i can get the windows loading screen to come up. I hope its not a hard drive failure. I haven't backed up my stuff in a while. I also installed some new crucial ram the same day. I took it out when it started doing the light flashing thing. Ill check tonight how many times they blink. Thanks so much for your help.

Its not under warrenty anymore either.

Thanks for the help

Is the flashing accompanied by deeping from the internal mobo speaker?

Lifetime warranty on the old sticks?
Odd that the RAM died so suddenly.

You might want to double-check the cooling fan on your memory cover panel to make sure it's not clogged up or otherwise prevented from spinning.

Ok, so the old ram i dont think is dead, but i cant seem to fix the stupid issue.

I still get all three lights flashing (caps lock, num lock, scroll lock) and then it just shuts off. I can get it to run fine once in a while.

they will work you throw troubleshooting
email --> richard@rjtech.com <<< very helpfull person

Could another component "kill" part of the motherboard? I've heard of mobo's killing RAM sticks and HDDs, but does it work the other way around?
It's possible a bad power supply/AC adapter could send too much voltage through a mobo and cook some circuits I would guess...
