I googled but i can't find Linux drivers for my HP laptop. It's my first contact with Linux. Have get headaches from reading about Linux and now i can't find drivers so my headaches will improve .
If someone can somehow help, thanks in advance.

It seems like becouse i don't have a ethernet driver i can't go online, a have added all ip's and dns's.

Someone remind me to write a troubleshooting HowTo and get it to be a sticky sometime

Ok if you don't think you have a working ethernet, do me a favor and give me the output of the following commands(You will need to type them in on a terminal and may need to enter your password)....

sudo ifconfig
sudo lspci -v
sudo lsmod

I have now put 7.04 over previus instal with noapic i think. And ubuntu 7.04 works now and even better than 6...

But still the same problem, no internet.
I can't post all this it is to mutch text and i'm on another computer becouse my lapy has no internet...

But in sudo ifconfig the Bcast says xxx.xxx.xx.255 at the and, but my gateway is xxx.xxx.xx.1 at the end. So this is a failure?

Hmmm have no contact to linux and now i must learn it the hard way omg.

Didn't even find drivers for motherboard yet.

If i won't figure out how to get the internet working on that ubuntu i will have problems.

(Ubuntu don't seems pritty fast and sometimes i push applications - terminal and than it says in the botom "starting aplication" than this text/tab goes away but the aplication don't starts...)

No. Broadcast Address and Gateway Address are completely different. Broadcast address for most people not on an IT run network will end in 255 almost always, but gateway can vary. Get the output and save the files to a USB key if you can, it SOUNDS like your ethernet is working fine, just isn't configured correctly, but I can't be sure without seeing that output. Also add one more command as well to the list now... sudo route In as far as applications acting weird, I have noticed even on my gentoo box many of them expect internet connections by default and will be very slow in loading as they try to connect to various servers to check for updates or whatever. In other words, lets tackle that after we get your internet working Seablade

as far as i am concerned 99% of all HP lappys have broadcom wifi/lan, further i am aware that broadcom linux drivers are in alpha stages and 99% absolutely suck, that said he will probably need to use ndiswrapper to get on the internet. everything is solved easier once he actually ahs a connection.

btw, to post all your stuff here, save it to a text file (in gedit) and then move it to a flash drive or something and then open it on your other computer and paste it here using the code tags.

as for "speed issues" and "starting application"... ubuntu is really not anywhere close to being the "fastest distro around"... quite honestly its one fo the slowest. if an application doesnt start open up system monitor and look at your processes, you might ahve to force quit before it opens. i had this happen where i would try to start firefox 5 times and then it would "start" just not show on the screen so i had to forcequit it 5 times, then try again and it loads. very rare, but occasionally does happen.

Oh, and the only drivers you will probably need are the Broadcom drivers for Windows to use with NDISwrapper. No need for motherboard drivers in Linux--it's probably already working.

Yes but if he/she is showing a broadcast address and gateway, it may ALREADY be working, but I am concerned he/she may in fact be looking at the loopback interface, which is not what we want obviously, thus why I need the output from the commands before I say whether or not it is actually working.

It works for now, i hope it stays that way, the modem has some problems (nothing defective but it need a restart) and when i restart ubutnu it works.

Now i also have beryl, let me say "working" and nvidia driver. I hope the biggest hell is behind me...

I will need some programs and still some drivers and setup my printer and so on... but i hope it will work for 99%.

A big TNX to all and a hug!

Right know my biggest problem is that i can't find a program that is making ".swf" files, that are Macromedia Adobe Flash files (not flash player, a flash player i will search tomorrow). I do some decent web design and need this laptop for my company and linux is free, gimp free, and so on, i found everything i need only Macromedia Adobe Flash program like 8 or 9 not .

if you still on ubuntu highly recommend you check out Automatix. it will set you up with 99% of all the crap you will need.

as for printing i wouldn't worry. as long as you have a popular printer (HP is very well supported) CUPS is one of the best printer management thing i ahve seen on ANY os.
