Aspire 5051 AWXMi Dismantle

Thread Starter
Can any one supply me with a engineers dismantle document for this model/series?

It seems that on the bottom inside the grill where the air is sucked in to cool down the cpu, 80% of the grill is covered with some sort of black cloth...the other 20% appears to be 'holed' cloth... sureley this is a design flaw/error...?

It seems that this blank piece of cloth is restricting airflow,
however the fan doesnt come on much under PowerNow but when i use CPU heavy apps the laptop gets really hot and the fan is constantly going...whilst this is normal in most laptops i feel that the restricted airflow will cause the fan to stay on longer (and also put strain on it)

Any help grately appreciated...

I highly doubt a service manual would say what it is for, it would just say it's name, where it goes, and part number. Anyways, the manual's name was "Aspire 3000/5000 Series" or something like that, to help you search for it.

My guess is its supposed to block dust. But you could try removing it and testing temperatures. I use RMClock

I've disassembled my 5051 AWXMi as the fan had to be replaced as it was sounding like a tractor (tip: you can buy just the fan on eBay & from component suppliers instead of having to buy the whole heatsink assembly from Acer). It seems that "tape" blocking the air intake is there deliberately (it's actually a thin strip of black plastic) - I suspect to ensure that there is more airflow through the cooling vanes of the exhaust instead of the air exiting through the rest of the heatsink - they've also added a strip of metal gauze next to the "tape" which I suspect is to improve heat transfer. Looks like a workaround for a design fault IMHO. Apart from regular cleaning with an air can I don't think there's much you can do to improve cooling with the AMD processor, although a Laptop Cooling Pad might help. Just because it's called a laptop it dosn't mean you should use it on your lap!
