Inspiron 6000 LCD screen

Hello,

I'm interested in purchasing a new LCD screen for my Dell Inspiron 6000. The backlight on the original screen went out; so I figured that rather than having that replaced, it would be easier to put on a new screen...

My question is: I currently have the wxga (1200 x 800 resolution), but am wondering if I could upgrade to a wsxga+ (1680 x 1050) or the wuxga (1920 x 1200) without problems? An eBay seller claims that one can only replace the screen with the exact screen resolution, otherwise the ribbon connector cable will not match up. Is this correct?

I appreciate your help.

i would stick with what you have, the higher resolution screens are difficult to use. i got a replacement screen from dell but they only ones they had in stock had a higher resolution, and at first seemed like a free upgrade. but i hate it! and the ribbon connector works with both of the different resolution screens i have installed, so i don't think you have to worry about that
