NVIDIA GeForce Go 5700 and 1680x1050 Resolution Support

I have a Toshiba F15-AV201 widescreen laptop with a NVIDIA GeForce Go 5700 video card that came with the laptop. I purchased an LG 22" widescreen and the display is horible on the LG monitor. The highest resolution I can get for an external monitor is 1600x900 and that is 16:9 aspect ratio (like HDTV), where as the monitor native resolution is 1680x1050 and that is 16:10 aspect ratio (like most widescreen pc monitors). So pictures look tall and skinny and text is not sharp at all. I hooked up my IBM laptop (work laptop) to the 22" LG monitor and it was awesome. I set the resolution to 1680x1050 and the pictures are not morphed and the text and everything is very crisp.

Are there newer drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce Go 5700 video card that I can download that would allow that card to support 1680x1050? I searched and couldn't find anything newer than the version I got, which is 6.6.1.2 and Bios version 4.36.20.41.BE.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

try to just use the external as primary and then set the resolution accordingly. if it is as an extension, it is limited to what the internal lcd can drive.

cheers ...

Yep..Im using the external monitor as the primary. In fact, I have the laptop closed and not using the laptop monitor. I can't get it above 1600x900. The images on the screen are horrible and if I can't figure out the solution, back to Best Buy it goes, unfortunately.

What's the refresh rate you are using for your specific resolution and is the external monitor capable of running at said refresh rate and resolution in the first place?

The only 2 refresh rates available are 60 and 75 with my adapter and monitor combination. I've tried both. The monitor supports both and it supports 1680x1050, which is what I'm wanting to run. But my video card and driver evidently doesn't support that resolution. That's why I want to see if there is a higher version driver than the 6.6.1.2 that I currently have installed for my NVIDIA GeForce FX Go 5700 adapter. I'm having my doubts that I'm going to be able to get this to work correctly. Any other ideas would be great. Thanks!
