M1210 RAM Upgrade

Thread Starter
Hey, im just wondering if i can upgrade the RAM myself on an M1210. I am going with the 2GB setup from factory, but the 4 GB would be really nice.... except i dont have an extra $1200 to put into RAM haha... Im jsut wondering how many RAM slots does the M1210 have? I know that the 2 GB takes up 2, so is tehre 2 more? if so that would be awsome because i could get 2 more gigs of ram for like $300, and also if i where to put the RAM in myself, would i be able to put in Kingston RAM or do i have to put in the EXACT same kind as it already has in order for them to be compatible? Thanks for your help guys.

The M1210 can accept 4GB of RAM. It has two DIMM slots, one on the bottom which is easily accessible. The other is under the keyboard and is less so. It's fairly easy to upgrade the RAM in about 10 minutes with a small amount of patience. Have a look for the M1210 Service Guide and it will show you how to remove the keyboard. It's not as dautning as it sounds. I upgraded to 4GB on mine and put the 2GB from my M1210 into the wifes.

Keep in mind that you'll only see around 3.2GB if your running a 32-bit OS. I bought my RAM from Crucial for about 140GBP which is significantly cheaper than Dell.

Best of luck - Colin

It's very very easy to upgrade.

On the right side of the top panel (where the power, mediadirect, and camera buttons are), there is a small notch. Use a small flathead screwdriver to pry that up. Lift the panel off. Make sure the LCD screen is parallel with the keyboard, otherwise the panel won't unmount.

Unscrew the 3 screws holding the keyboard tray. Lift the keyboard out. There is a connection from the keyboard to the motherboard. Grab hold of the plastic tab on the motherboard connector to pull the connection out.

There is your first DIMM slot. Simply press both metal retaining clips and the RAM chip will pop out like older style DIMM slots on desktop PCs.

The second DIMM slot is very hard to find

Make sure the RAM you're getting is SODIMM DDR2 PC5300 667mhz. It's better to get the same brand of memory if you're planning to run them in dual channel.
