Hi, I'm having problems formatting my Acer because I don't have the XP disc. It was never included in the package. Anyone mind helping me out? Thanks.

After you format the disk, what do you plan to do with it? If you going to install another OS on the desk use the format of that OS

Well I plan on leaving Windows XP. I want to format it cause there seems to be A LOT of errors as of now and the laptop's speed has decreased due to too much programs and other software like adware, spyware etc... It has already been a year so far, and I usually format my PC every year. I should be doing this with my laptop as to wipe out unnecessary software. Can anyone point out the steps I need to perform in order to format? Thanks in advance.

As I said in my first reply, use the format in the new OS that you are going to install. Every OS I have ever installed had a format function on the media. If you answered the earlier question of what OS you planned to install it would be easier to give you direction

Uhm, it'll be the same OS as the current one, but "fresh". I'm aiming for more of a "registry cleaning" type of format. As I mentioned, no disc to execute this action. That's why I need help. Thanks.

Formating a hard disk and cleaning a registry are two different things. Once you format a hard drive, the drive will be empty. No files, no OS, no nothing. Cleaning a registry is just removing unnecessary stuff from the registry. I use System Suite 7 from VCOM to clean my registry but it is a commercial product. You might want to try ccleaner (freeware) or google registery cleaners. However, if you are planning to do a fresh install of XP, you can reformat the HD during the install. You say you did not get XP disks with your computer. Did you ever run the utility that came with your system to create a set of recovery disks. The recovery disks will allow you to reformat the HD, install the OS and return you the original configuration of the computer (ie. the way it was when you bought it).
