Orange juice disaster

Thread Starter
Yup- it happened; this morning took a cup of nice cold OJ up to my room, put it on my desk then knocked it over; OJ went all over the desk which was holding my Apple AND Dell- managed to get the Dell off with minimal exposure; just wiped it off the bottom plastic... the Apple
Well this is how bad it was; you know the back of the macbook pro behind the screen; the small crevice that seems to lead into the rest of the laptop and CPU etc. well as I picked up the mac laptop OJ poured out of that cavity

Now it seems to be ok just now- I let it dry out first and turned it back on and it SEEMS to be working... but is there a chance that down the line it may screw up... My mate had an old laptop; a Packard Bell now that I remember; and he spilled OJ all over it and as far as I believe it worked for a bit then suddenly just died

Does anyone have any ideas on what may happen; would I be better to take it in to get checked over...?

Thanks for any help

If you take it in to get fixed Apple won't do anything as soon as they find evidence of liquid inside.

I always wondered if, in situations like this, you flushed your computer with, like, 99 percent rubbing alcohol, that it would wash away most, if not all, of the impurities from the spilled liquid.

I wouldn't hold your breath on it. It may work for a couple weeks, it may work for the rest of its lifespan. Or it may dye on you as you type a reply to this post

sorry to hear that I've had a couple brushes with death in that respect too (damn soda cans) I've been lucky though, I'd never forgive myself

Oh! What colour would it dye me? I like purple myself.

i would take it apart and clean it out with some rubbing alcohol.

I second opening it up and wiping everything, clean up some dust while you are in there. Don't reassemble it until you are sure everything is dry.

Just be careful with the rubbing alcohol. Remember it is a solvent, which means it can eat away the plastic. If you're using undiluted rubbing alcohol, I would take extra precautions to keep it off the LCD especially.

oh yea, never let any "non-LCD approved" chemicals touch your LCD... windex... lysol.... alcohol they are all bad news.... as far as the other materials you would probably need to clean.. you should probably be ok... less the HDD and PSU brick .. i would advise against opening either of those up....

I personally would take it apart completely and put alcohol in a spray bottle and spray off each part and let them sit out for a day, or take them to the place that i used to work and run it through the cleaning machine. which is actually made for cleaning motherboards and soldered electronics(i made motherboards there)

um, rubbing alcohol doesn't always play nicely with plastics.
