Dell M1730 Revealed Everything we feared is true! - Page 9

So I was at a Dell kiosk yesterday, and I got into an argument with the sales rep on how the 1720 was way faster then the M1710. He exact quote was that he ran a 1720 with the 2.4 I think, and an 8600 vid card. Next to a M1710 with 2.33, and a 7950gtx, and he was telling me under vista that Halo 2 & Shadowrun ran 20 FPS faster on the 1720 than the M1710.

I told him he was full of shit and needs learn his products before telling lies, but he was like "have you seen it run side to side no I have, the 1720 are faster and the XPS well eat the M1710" kept on telling over and over again so I just left but know is there any truth to this or was he just full of it.

yeah, dell's sales department are full of punks who will say anything to sell their products. It's effective for the average consumer who probably knows nothing about graphics cards and would believe that a computer equipped with stuff labeled with a higher number (i.e. 8600gt, 2.4ghz t7700 vs 7950 gtx, t7600) will perform better. The sales rep know how to sell computers, but they hardly know anything about the stuff they are selling other than what is written on the spec sheet.

I thought Kiosk people don't earn commission so for what reason would they benefit to lie to you? Very odd.
I doubt he was lied to, it is more likely the Kiosk gentleman was unaware of the advantages that previous generation cards have over the currently available DX10 cards.

Most people think newer=better, unless they are technically minded they will assume that.

haha, maybe you should have brought over "your" 1710 and did a side by side comparison...

have it recorded and put it on you-tube =P

i admit i didnt go through all 12 pages, but....

these pictures are from the same set of pictures that also showed the back of the laptop. the only connectors were power, 1 usb slot and ethernet.

i call fake on these pics.

You should've read all pages then... Extra USB slots etc are on sides.

The reason there are so few connections on the back is easy to explain, it's called easier access.

Wow, ok saw the additional pictures on page 5.

As someone that uses all 6 USB slots, ethernet and DVI out 90% of the time, the new design makes no sense. I am sure its easier for many, but for me, it will be super ugly and irritating to have more cables sticking out the sides.

I guess I should go with a desktop and a cheap laptop for work travelling, but having the 1710 meant I needed only one machine and could take everything with me easily. Oh well.

I think it would look horrible to have cables out the sides....it looks bad enough as it is coming from the rear. The whole wire thing is insanely hard to work with in the first place but with cables on the sides, it will cause havoc on the desk surface.

I didn't say it looked good lol, I was just answering your question

yeah it is ugly ( as has been the common theme throughout this thread), but the solution to that is simple, don't buy it (I'm not).

lol SolApathy. True, vote with the pocket. I think I nice quadcore/sli for the house and $700 laptop for work would be nice.

I assure you they're not...unless Dell faked the pictures in their own service manual.

I was thinking the same thing especially with all the leaks with the M1330. Maybe that was a very early prototype and the new one is everything anybody could dream of! Ill keep dreaming though!
