Dell M1730 Revealed Everything we feared is true! - Page 3

What crap. Glad I gunned for a $1200 Inspiron E1705 + $400 512MB Quadro 3500M, will have better performance in gaming versus a M1730, at least until January 2008!

That thing is so ugly it made my baby cry... The inclusion of the number pad & shifting of the mouse pad shut me down before the video card even came into the equation. I am left handed & perhaps if the pad was on the right side it would be more suited to me, they should have kept it centered so everyone could use it comfortably.

<OI guess after my 1710 gets too old I will be shifting to another portable gaming laptop manufacturer.

I have to give Dell props for not listening to it's customers & making a concerted effort to tank their XPS branding.

<O</O

The funny part is that the new inspiron and XPS lines were their response to customers asking for a visual re-do. To be honest though...they did listen, however this forum seems to have it's own special niche that was not appealed to.

LOL. Props to the propelleheads!

Sup PDonket! Up early i see. I'm here at our datacenter installing a new blade and a couple of WIC2Ts for our new branches. How much more fun can you have on a Sunday morning!

I've already been questioning which laptop manufacturer I would move to haha. Hmm, I may just go for the desktop + Asus combo.

I'm sorry, but *who* can say the new line is beautiful? I find even the 1720 to be ugly, and this even worse.

Oh well, guess my Inspiron 9400 will live on for quite some years then. No way I'm buying that even if it had a 8800M. It's just....to ugly.

The Dell ideastorm website is the one encouraging the drastic change (yes, in the wrong direction) but a change indeed. So far the 1720 has actually done wonders for dell...so I can't put that one down in terms of company accomplishments.

Now that's my idea of a hell of a fun time on a sunday morning

well I am over @ ideastorm, beeen there for awhile. while a revamp was wanted, this thing looks like it was designed by Mr. Ugly himself.

You know this means the battery isgoing to hang out just like the 1720, not to mention the samn thing reminds me of the Gen 1 design. Looks bulkier (prolly the red giving that effect) & just plain undesirable. I wonder if this is Dell's way of pushing ppl towards the AW side so it can focus the Dell side on multimedia & business lines...

Did I mention it made my baby cry?

ok guys, let's forget about the horrid 8700GT... they will surely be able to replace it with 8800... LETS TALK ABOUT THE DESIGN.

1. It does look like M1730 is using the new Inspiron chassis.
2. It looks like carbon fiber, not so bad, right? I'm sure carbon fiber looks better in person
3. It would be easy to replace the stupid looking WHITE keyboard with the glossy BLACK ONE, it would look so much better.
4. The RED parts on the lid could easily be replaced with GLOSSY BLACK.

AND FINALLY, picture the laptop after these minor changes... it wouldn't be so bad IMHO, it would be something like... Darth Vader of laptops

PS. I STILL MUCH PREFER MY E1705/M1710!!!! Long live the king!

I think indeed with the changes listed above, the computer would drastically look better. I don't necessarily mind the looks that much...I admire performance anyway not looks!

Damn, i saw this and started worrying for the poor dell stockholders... its kinda time to SELL SELL SELL lmao

nope, all it needs to do is last until a better system comes out to repace whatever will be next, assuming it will be as ugly, which i dont think will be the case. sure, it might have the same chassis, but it's not going to be visually the same, at least i'd imagine it wouldn't be. it might take a bit to get used to the different keyboard and it being off center.

also, @hellstrider189, and do you suppose that any keyboard will be able to replace it? typically, there are somewhat specific keyboards that fit certain systems, and off the top of my head, i can't think of another dell laptop that has a (black) keyboard with a numberpad that you'd be able to use as a replacement

Here's the problem though. The reason I use the 17" desktop replacement system is to play most games out there at high settings. I don't think current system will do the job for another 2 or more years.

"last until a better system comes out" just don't cut it you see? Defeats the sole purpose of why many people have gotten the 17" in the first place.

It may be too early to tell since who knows what Dell's upgrade plan on it's GPU may be, but the new line should've have even tiny upgrade on GPU, not the other way.

Maybe you can take some legal action over that...

:lov e::l ove::lov e::l ove:

much love to the 1705
looks like its based off the 1720, the lid looks meh (the XPS Gen 2/M170/M1710 lid design is far better). I also liked it when it didn't have the number pad (IMO the 1710 keyboard was better for me when it came to gaming). If this new XPS has SLi (or two 8700M cards), or can support two of them, then the 230W could be justified.

from the looks of it, IF i were to buy a new gaming laptop, it'd probably be the Asus G2P...

Lets hope that was a engineering sample that was tossed out lol

i dont understand why the video cards they are offering are worse than the currently avilable ones in the m1710??? or are people just talking crap
