M9700 & Vista Problems

Hey guys...

ive had my m9700 for a while now.

ive just installed vista and it have been working ok.. ive had some problems with the wifi and some other things but ive got them working properly.

now since i got vista working properly ive had this blue screen which pops up every once in a while saying that i have a serious problem and that windows needs to shut down in order to prevent any problems from happening to my hardware.

it also says that if it was the first time to see this screen then its no problem but if it continues to pop up then i have a problem.

it just appeared now and for the first time it said that there is a serious issue and that i should contact the technical support. just before it appeared my wifi stopped working and i got a message saying new hardware found as if i just plugged it in :S..

need some help please on what i should do. should i reinstall xp and wait till everything is fully supported with vista?

Do you get an error code when it blue screens (BSD)?
Try "Googling" it and see what you can find.
Post the message here and we can try to help.

I assume that you were not getting a BSD when you had XP.
When you did the install of Vista, was it an upgrade or did you do a "Fresh" install.
You might try to reload Vista if you have time.

Thanks for the reply. in the blue screen it doesnt really say what the problem is. but after the system recovers i clicked on the check for a solution option and it said that i have a problem with some of my hardware which causes the blue screen to appear. it said that it may be the ram or the cpu causing the problem. No when i had xp i never got the blue screen. and vista was a fresh install i bought the full copy of home premium. Now my wifi doesnt work do you have any idea what i should do. All i did was change some kind of setting from WPA to WPA2 and then i got the blue screen and when i restarted it said that i dont have a wireless card installed and in the device manager i got ethernet controller as an unknown device :S and if i reinstall vista where can i get full support of the drivers. as some drivers on the alienware website causes some kind of error in vista :S

I would suggest doing a fresh install, yeah I know it's a pain in the butt

also did you get all the drivers for vista on the alienware site?

yeah. Should i use xp for now till there are fully supported drivers or are the drivers available now good enough and the problem is something i did?

well I think the drivers should be good, I am running vista as well & got the drivers from the website...

i guess just try again...but this time, you should call tech support and have them walk you through it...

be patient as some of them are hard to understand, but are very cooperative

Yang - can you have a non-raid setup?
absolutely...I run duel hdd's w/ out raid =D

I'm actually running the 100 gb w/ xp and the 200 gb w/ vista...

if i want to boot into vista I just change it to the hdd from the boot menu...if not it automatically boots into xp

i think i know what my problem is but i cant seem to know how to solve it.

i changed some setting for my wireless card and then it stopped working properly. the blue screen appeared after and since then i cant use my wireless. i reinstalled xp again from the respawn cd but it still causes the blue screen to appear or it doesnt work at all.

any1 know what i should do?

thanks

remove the keyboard and the plate beneath it. The wireless card is under the F2, 2, Q, W keys. Just take it out and reseat it. See if that helps.
