hey
i jst bought a nw laptop frm dell latitude d 830 nd the softwares frm dell sucks so i ws thinking of formating it so cn any one plz tell me steps including in formating(i gt xp pro cd frm dell)

I don't think that you should format your computer. I did what you want to do and found out the hard way that those sucky programs that dell adds can always be removed. You will want some of them!!! If you reformat, then you will most likely loose your dell restore, which you want!!! uninstall, don't reformat.

even removing it, you'll have registry left overs and such. The best performance boost is from formatting but if you can't be bothered, you can uninstall it, goto the C:\Program Files\ folder and delete all the left over files and clean up the registry. Be aware, if you mess up on something, you could damage another program and such.

Latitudes shouldn't come with much more than a basic driver and Quickset load. My D820 had nothing more than Drivers, Quickset, and Power DVD installed. There's no need to reformat a Latitude initially.

However, I find it funny that the folks that keep posting these threads think that there's something wrong with their factory load....just an observation. I think it's more of an idea implanted in our less knowledgable forum members' heads by the power users.
