I am hesitating btw 13.3'' MacBook (2.16GHz Core 2 Duo 1GB) and Sony VGN-FZ 190 (T730

I am hesitating btw 13.3'' MacBook (2.16GHz Core 2 Duo 1GB/120GB/SuperDrive) and Sony VGN-FZ 190 (T7300, 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo, 15.4" WXGA-HC).

I will work a lot with photos (editing with Photoshop and reviewing).
Specific questions (Sony vs MacBook):
1.Quality of monitor, 15.4" 1280X800 WXGA (HC) vs 13.3'' active-matrix 1280 x 800 TFT/XGA

2.NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GT vs Intel GMA 950 graphics processor with 64MB of DDR2 SDRAM

3.T7300 (2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo) of Sony vs 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook

4.Vista (or XP) vs MacOS v10.4 Tiger

On the other hand, 15.4" vs 13.3'' (of course, on the price of:
•5.75 lb vs 5.1 lb, and
•14"x0.98 1.4"x10.02" vs 12.78"X1.08"X8.92"
•They might also have other significant differences that I just don’t understand enough to point out. Please help if I missed something important.

Please suggest.

This being a mac based area most people will say get the macbook and I'd tend to agree with them If you are working a ton with pictures. The gfx card doesn't matter so much until you get into either video rendering or gaming. Screen may be an issue (1 of the reason's I went with a Macbook pro) I'd just goto your nearest apple store and work on it for 10-15 minutes. With the CPU I doubt you will actually notice much difference. Other than that I cant see much reason why the macbook would be a bad choice.

Kaltek is right, you need RAM and CPU to work with photos, the graphics card is irrelevant. Also, since they are the same resolution screen, then the 13" is the better option since the pixels will be closer together, things will look sharper.

When it comes to the OS... if you are willing to try a new OS, then OS X is the way to go. Very easy to use, but also very powerful in terms of what you can do on it.

for the money that either the sony or the macbook will run you you can do a hell lot better in temrs of specs. however, between teh 2 the mac will perform better, but the sony will have a much nicer screen. and actually the gpu does make a diff when it comes to shared vs dedicated for the overall performance of the system... however yeah, the stu is right that "it doesn't matter" .. but only as far as comparing say a 8600 to a 7400 for photo editing.

I think a lot of the shared vs. dedicated thing comes from the differences in how windows and os x handles the graphics card, especially integrated cards. I have used CS3 on both my MacBook and my buddy's MacBook Pro.. (1.83GHz Core on mine 2.0GHz on his, both with 1GB of RAM) and although it was nicer on his due to the higher res screen, I didn't notice any major speed difference between the two. I only compared them in OS X since I dont have a windows license for CS 3.

Something to remember Apple is about to release the new OS which looks Bit**ing
I use both mac and windows and for photo work (which I do a lot of as-well being a photographer) I would tend to lean towards the mac- so much simpler; storage and accessing them; but like said above go to a shop and have a play on them
I'm not too sure about the whole small screen on the macbook- the macbook pro is nice; but the macbook is more portable, better battery etc. and basically just as powerful... so macbook is a very good choice- I regret getting the macbook pro to be honest; I don't see a big diff for the price; but then again I don't push it lol
