IBM/Lenovo is offering Suse on their laptops eventually apparently.

I find it interesting so many computer manufacturers now are looking towards Linux, and a very good thing IMO.

yeah i saw the news all over distrowatch today and was like "wha!!!!" ... good news yes. Suse...not so much. I mean I understand the Lenovo-Novell partnership but from a "picking the right distro for the customer".. Suse just fails.

Eh, their business strategy is for the enterprise, where Novell is popular, so it isn't a horrible choice. It isn't my choice, or most people's here, but we also deal with a small number of computers. Those that do enterprise work tend to look at Suse, RH, etc.

it's still good news. at least if it comes with linux there are sure to be drivers readily available, which in itself is a welcome thing.

I have to reply to this thread, as I was using Enterprise SuSE on a Lenovo laptop before the announcement came out. I have to say that as far as an enterprise edition of Linux goes, it's much better than Red Hat's Enterprise versions 4.0 and the new 5.0 It may not be the overall greatest Linux version ever, but it is nice that the O/S is very compatible with Lenovo laptops. The time it took me to install was 40 minutes, and I did not have any issues, including wireless devices or the ATI X1400 that came with the Lenovo z61m that I was using. I was even able to get support for the biometric finger/thumb print reader...

I am just glad to see that more company's are getting away from Windows. Now if they would just make games for linux it would be great.

You will probably see more and more companies offering Linux as an alternative in the upcoming years...

if ubuntu + dell keeps going along as they are... aka if ubuntu sticks to their 6-mo release schedule making progressive moves every 2nd release, and if dell doesn't drop support by then (figure 1 yr from 8.04 release) then we should have a very rapidly growing linux home user market which would of course get the attention of game developers (large ones at first like EA) and we should see ala-LOKI-like installers included w/ games. Of course, Microsoft games we will never see ported to linux, so no FlightSim or Halo will ever make it to a linux box (unless through Wine...which is working really well right now. too bad steam doesn't work).
