Debating between Gateway MT6841 and Acer 5630-6288

Hello everyone! First time user here. A friend recommended me this site and so far I've had no problems and it's a great community.

The thing is that I'm stuck between choosing two laptops. Both are from Circuit City.

I guess I'm really confused about the whole processor thing. Both run on an Intel Core 2 Duo. But the models are different.

On the Gateway, it's a T2450 (2.0ghz) while the Acer has a T5550 (1.66ghz). I don't know which one is better, but I'm thinking the Gateway would be better (but bigger isn't always necessarily better?)

I was also wondering which one has better tech support and warranty also? This will be my first laptop and I hope it will last me for a long time. I guess I'm looking for a better bang for the buck.

Here are the links for both of them:

Thanks a lot for your time guys. I appreciate it.

neither. both companies have very poor build quality and even worse tech support so your goal of longevity probably wont come true. granted you are working with a very fixed budget but i am fairly sure there are better options out there.

acer is better than gateway in build quality

id go with acer IF that is your only 2 choices, better buy a CC warranty

if not, save up more money, like 1100 bucks, go to www.newegg.com laptops then asus then find one you like for around that price

Actually the Gateway is a Core Duo (no 2)
The Acer's Core 2 Duo T5500 will perform better, although perhaps not noticably better given the Gateway's T2450's higher clock speed.

NotebookReview has a review on the Acer 5630, but not the same configuration

There isn't one for the Gateway, but Google it and see what you can find

we need prices to determine the better deal, but in either case the 1400 will outperform either the acer or the gateway

The base price for the 1420 and the 1500 both start off at $649. Sorry about that.

The T2000 series processors are a previous generation of processors to the T5000 series. If you go to Intel.com you can find out the processor comparisons for notebook computers. I am going to get the Acer. Conumer reviews are great and that's who I listen to "the customers".
It's $699 @ Circuit City now and I'm going to buy one tis weekend. What a deal the other PC's with the same stuff are about $900
See Ya!

You can listen to others or you can check the info out for yourself. The links I am providing should make it clear whether the T5470 is faster than the T5500. Of course we know the rest of the system makes a difference. If you want to split hairs.
The T5500 is faster but has a slower buss. intel arranges their processors in performance order.
Hey Chronoserge456, I would like to see a link to a price of $649 for any T5000 series with the 2gb ram (apples to apples).
I will issue you a public apoligy for doubting your statement.
