After my laptop is idle for some time the screen just goes black. There's no way I can press the power button and have my display turn on. I have to press the power button and turn the laptop on again. I'm assuming this is some power saving feature but its so damn annoying. How do I fix this?

Check the Power Options in the control panel. It should show a list of options on the fist menu stating when the computer should go into standby or hibernate after idling for a certain amount of time. Set these times to "Never" if you never want it to go into standby or hibernate when idling. Or just pick a time you'd like.
