M90 Bios A07 Update Error - Any help how I can fix this?

Hi All,

yesterday morning I tried to install the latest Bios Rev A07 for my Dell M90, equipped with Vista Ultimate.

The last Bios Updates worked flawless and without any issues.

When I started the Update the first time, the whole system slowed down and stopped with this error warning. Rebooting (as suggested in the window) doesn´t help, Update always returns with the same error.

I assume that Bios already wrote something to the harddisc, but I was not able to locate the files, so that I can delete them and start the process again.

I attached a screenshot of the error message.

Any help would be great! TIA, Michael

I just updated to test it, and everything was smooth. You may want to call Dell. I'm not sure if you can downgrade.

what does the update do? Given that we have one report of a problem and one of no problem, i'd rather waqit to update unless it does something really useful.

I would re-download the bios update and re-flash in DOS and see if that clears up your problem.

If not, you can download and re-flash the previous bios from dell's ftp site.

Either way, be sure to flash your bios under DOS ( NOT DOS PRoMPT!!)
ie... use a DOS boot disk.

Good Luck

It wasn't even a update that was worth do get. It was a fix for wireless card or something which I don't even use. I just updated to see if there was something wrong with it & tell other's it worked on mine.

ok guys, thanks for your comments. As I do not own a floppy disc drive, I need to go for the bootable CD version and upgrade BIOS from DOS.

As this is not that easy and fast as to do it via GUI, I´ll do that the following days. Anyway, I noticed in the meantime a much higher memory consuption than I had before. Use a tool in windows sidebar I had before a usage of memory of around 25%, right now I end up at 40-ish. I used the task manager but wasn´t able to notice a significant change in pocesses.

So I assume that the upgrader is still running and consuming disk-space but also main memory. Does anyone know where -once you started the BIOS upgrade - this tool is storing files and processes? In addition, the issue (my assumption) is that the BIOS flashing tool is the cause for that. Any link or hint how I can repair this one?

Would be great! Thnaks in advance, Michael

I would make a bootable flash drive via the blind flashing sticky tutorial (or if you really need to, it also has links and inst. on how to do a bootable CD).
That should take you all of 5 min..... then put the bios update .exe onto the flashdrive (CD) and reboot... hit F12 for one-time boot menu select USB drive (or cd drive) the type nameofbiosflash.exe and thats it.
