Macbook - a few issues

Hey all

i have a macbook that ive had for about 8 months now. Recently i have had some issues. i still have 4 months of applecare

1.) The battery does not work. the laptop wont run off battery power. ive tried flashing pram/nvram, and nothing worked.
--will apple give me a new battery?

2.) out of nowhere, i have gotten a small chip on the corner of the palmrest. the laptop has never been dropped or damaged in any way, and there is no signs of accidental damage. the rounded corner of the macbook adjacent to the chip is totally fine, not damaged at all. it seems that the plastic was just weak around that point and cracked off during use (see image).

--now will applecare cover this? i know the have a stipulation that will cover cracks around the palmrest, but hopefully they wont claim accidental damage and not cover it at all

thanks all, this is a great community and i trust actual user's experience over tech support opinions

My sister's MacBook's topcase developed a crack in it and she took it in to a Genius Bar. She had it back the same day, brand new topcase installed.

I would take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store, I called Apple Tech about cracks in my topcase, not only would my system have been gone for weeks, but they also said that they may not fix it in the end.

If genius bar won't fix it, call up Apple corporate. Customer service really just depends on which associate you speak to, most of the time.
