Atheros Wireless N Card

Anyone try out the Wireless N Atheros card from Gigabyte? I think it's pretty new. Having a hard time finding anything on it. If so, any comments? I just got a GN-WI01GT today for my M1710 and am already feeling like an upgrade.

UPDATE:

I spoke to the supplier that sent me my GN-WI01GT card and they advised that this new A/G/N card will be released to them within a week or so. I Googled the part # and all I found was the link to Gigabyte's site. Not much more news out there.

yes its quite new, just appearing in the latest Atheros Driver Builds.

Which supplier is getting this card in?

I am interested in putting it into my i6400.

I found them via a Google search. Company is based in the UK, but they have an Sales Office in the US (California, Warehouse in Chicago).

Oxfordtec

I'll use them again. Great service. They told me the new card will be available in coming weeks and to check their website for updates as they stay pretty current.

Have just ordered one from OxfordTec, will be interesting to see how long it takes to come out to NZ.

My Dell WLAN 1500 is pretty useless as it takes ages to connect to my Buffalo WZR-AG300NH

Also range is not very good, get a very broad speed range when only about 3 meters from Router (160-270Mbps) on A band (where there is no other use)
In the far bedroom I get only 24Mbps where as my Intel 3965 is still on 54Mbps.
Also ordered an Antenna from them as I assume this will have 3 sockets for it and my i9400 only has 2 aerials.
Another negative for the Broadcom based Dell 1500 with ony 2 aerial connectors, even Intel 4965 has 3.

I just made the same order exactly .. can't wait to connect it. I havn't figured out yet where to put the 3rd antenna inside the lappy , do you have any idea for a good placement ? I hope the RF waves won't harm any near circutry.. anyway I guess you'll recieve it before I do since I live outside the U.S so post your expirience back here if you can.

Your router better be an Atheros Chipset with 5 gigahertz Bandwidth.

Otherwise your router will tank.

Also Oxford is listing them for pre-order.

Not in stock yet.

You need to pick up a DIR-855 if they ever come out it is dual band atheros Draft 2.0 N.

Oxfordtec told me last week about the pre-order situation, but did say they'd be filling orders very soon (as in end of this week I think he told me).

As far at the other stuff goes, I'm still in a Wireless G environment at home and at work (using Buffalo routers with DD-WRT firmware). I don't really have a need for N yet, but it's nice to have the potential down the road. My 1710 did come with the Intel 4965 card, but I took it out to use the Gigabyte b/g offering (been a rock solid card since I got it). I'm on vacation now staying at a place with a very week signal, but I've been connected without incident for 2+ days now).

I'll probably place the aerial down the side of the laptop (keyboard) away from the HD. Will save me pulling screen apart to get it in there I live in Nww Zealand so will also be up for a weeks exra postage wait I have an nfinity based Buffalo ABG draftN router who does intensi-fy [UPDATE] I see Broadcom do nFinity = Broadcom intenisi-fi. Will be interesting to see how the Atheros does with Bradcom mix, I'd be happy even with 108Mbps as long at the Atheros logs in quicker than the Broadcom adaptor.

I will have my order in, once my third antenna arrives for my i6400. Then I need to wait for the DIR-855.

Anybody got their card yet ?
All is very quiet.

Taking so long I've modded the Broadcom 943xx (Dell 1500 WLAN) driver INF and this baby now works really well.
270Mbps all the time now.
Logs in, in only seconds instead of about a minute.
Better range and all settings are adjustable now.
Also now has much newer driver version than Dells.

The Gigabyte WLAN card now has stiff competition if it ever arrives.

I was checking my order online and it finally shipped 8/24. Being so new, "Chris" (Oxfordtec) told me there would be some delays getting the card. Should be here any day now.

I couldn't believe how bad the drivers were for the Dell 1500.
Only the WDDM drivers were of any use.

One thing though I have not tried it lately with A band is WPA 1 or 2.
For some reason with the other drivers I could only use WEP, otherwise it took a week of sundays to login into the router.
G band everything works fine as it should and give a little better range plus will use all the security logins.
But I wanted and was determined to use A band with my machine.
A band is nice and quiet, does get lonely here all by my self

Order Status: Warehouse P&P(<48hrs) Celly this has been my status for the last 2 weeks+
May need to email them to see if they have forgotten me.

That's odd, unless they only had one in stock (and I got it).

My status:

"08/24/2007 Shipped"

I'd email them. Ask for "Chris". He's been superb with me for service. rerplies relatively fast. I've placed two orders with them since my first order (the 2nd order was the N card and the 3rd was for some b/g cards for work).

Right on.

I guess they're just trickling these things out right now. Mine's not here yet. My guess is Tues/Wed. I just scored a D-Link DIR-655 to go with it (I'll get a 855 when/if it's ever released). Nice router and highly rated. I put my Intel 4965 back in to play with it until the Gigabyte shows up.

Taking quite a long time to reach Calgary as it's only in an envelpe.
The Gigabyte card now has real stiff competition.

My driver tweaking of the Broadcom card now gives me 216Mbps in the far bedroom (through 2 walls) in G, was 54Mbps with default.
A band at this range is @ 54Mbps, was as low as 24Mbps with default.
This is oodles better then the default drivers that broadcom send to OEM's.
I may end up keeping the Broadcom snd the wife's latitude D820, might get the gigabyte (it has 3 aerials built in already), as the i3945 refuses to hook up to A band in anything other then WEP

Must keep in touch to see how our cards do with different routers.
