can anyone tell me the difference betwixt XPS and 9100?

aside from $1000 and different shells, i can't seem to find a difference in hardware between the two. granted, you can get the P4EE in the XPS, but what sane person would shell out $800 for that......

Speed of the processor is the main difference. Other than that, the 9100 is available with a lower amount of RAM and a 64 MB video card instead of the 128 MB. The XPS comes with an XPS backback free. Also the XPS is supposed to have dedicated XPS tech support. If you really configure a 9100 and XPS with the exact same options the difference isn't that great in price. I opted for the XPS, mainly cause I'm maxing out everything in it

B.

XPS shipping, will be here the 5th.

The main difference apears to be their "upgradable graphics" option where you can have Dell upgrade the video card in your XPS one time (for a price).

And the XPS does not come with the EE processor by default. It's 700 more

Some things the XPS has over the 9100:
1. Higher speed processor options
2. Free QuickSnap cover
3. Gigabit Ethernet
4. Free backpack
5. Graphics upgrade option
6. Dedicated tech support

thanks for the info. though i am still blind the value of the $1000+++ premium. upgradable graphics are nice, but PCI express will be here by the time you'd want to upgrade, and then you wouldnt want the AGP upgrade they may be offering. i guess the bragging rights, and psycological value of knowing that you have pretty much the meanest laptop on the planet could justify $1000. who needs the mid life crisis porsche when there's the XPS...

well i read about the pci express cards coming out...at least for desktop.....nvidia will be using whats called a "bridge" .......sounds like it can fit in pci express slot or agp slot which most people use............and ati is going with a "native" card......which means it sounds like .........just fits in the pci express slot........now how this has bearing on laptops im not sure
