upgrade from 7900GS to 7950GTX - Is it Worth it

I have been thinking about upgrading to the GeForce Go 7950 GTX graphics card in my E1705 if I can ever get through to dell on pricing first. My main reason for the upgrade is that I want to able to watch HDDVDs (Yes Im on the HD DVD side) on my notebook. The 7900GS doesn't quite handle it and it doesn't help that Cyberlink forces specific drivers versions for either HDDVD or Bluray playback.

I plan on getting the external HDDVD drive from Toshiba and make it internal or go through an OEM that supports HD DVD.

I don't want to hear opinions thinking Bluray is better I just want to know if upgrading to the 7950 GTX is worth it?

I don't know if I will go with Dell, They quoted me 1,000 for the card which there is no way that can be that, I did see this ebay auction.

Any experiences from them?

I think Dell changes their price day to day... give them the part number (it's on this forum somewhere) and see if they still say 1000. I was told that the 7900gtx would be 1000, and the 7950gtx would be 490, while the 7900gs was 380.

I asked my buddy who went from the 7900GSX to the 7950. He said at low resolution it doesn't really matter, but gaming in 1920x1200 resolution in F.E.A.R. he went from 60fps to around 100fps max. I think that is because of the video memory. The question is really whats the performance of the 7900GTX (512) vs the 7950GTX (512) . Its about a 100 dollar different on ebay . . . and I guess the 7900 is almost the exact same as the 7950 . .

I guess find someone who went from a oc'd 7900GTX to a 7950 GTX that would be the real question.
