Is there an option to "lock" the cd tray button on the front of the m9750?

Can it be done? Half the time I have this thing on my lap which makes it prone to opening if it touches my stomach.

umm i have the same problem with my m9700 sometimes, i usually just keep it on a table though or on a surface... I don't think you can do it without taking it apart or something...

Never heard of a way to override the hard open button... You can probably disable it by cutting a wire, but then you'd have to use the pin release to open it up.

Have you looked into a replacement drive with a slot instead of a drawer?

Can you unscrew the drive and remove the drive and just slide it in when you need it? That might work if you use that drive as seldom as I do.

In Linux there's an option to disable the button when a disk's in there... so that would indicate that it's possible to do it with some software utility.

If you can find a drive that'll fit, you can replace it. AW just won't offer support for your added hardware, but it won't void the remaining warranty.

If they determine a support issue is caused by the new optical drive, they may refuse to offer support, but you can just put the original drive back in to deal with any issues.

I'm gonna try and find one... How do I know which ones fit?

I HATE the fact that AW moved the CD tray frmo the left side with the 5750 and the 5790 to the front with the 9750. it doesnt even make any sense to be there to begin with. chances are you are probably using an external keyboard and if you need to change CDs/DVDs you need to move your entire keyboard to open the tray. bad form AW. the 5750 design was perfect.

I guess with everything else they crammed in there, that was what was left as far as space.

I like the tray in front personally. It keeps heat from the wrist rest, and I've always had problems with trays interfering with my mouse chord, nostromo chord, rumblepad chord, internet connection and external hd usb's...

I don't use it much though, I get no cd patches for all my games, except for BF2 and BF2142.

Hmmm... Can you find the specs on the drive AW is using? I think the slim drives are pretty standardized at this point, so you should be able to find one... Might have trouble matching the paint.

You can always call AW tech support or customer service and see if you can get some more detailed specs. They might even be able to recommend one as I think they had slot drives for a short time for the 7700 line.

works like a charm you have to go under options when it is installed and change the language to english but other than that it does the trick..

With some older models like the m5500(766) and the 7700, the vid card or cpu were under the wrist rest, and it got pretty hot... Putting the cd tray in front leaves room in back for the hot components.

OK here's what I've dug up, I talked to an alienware forum guy and he gave me this for the dimensions of the disk drive

Dimensions:

Height 1.3 cm

Width 12.8 cm

Depth 12.9 cm

Weight 0.18 kg

I need help finding a slot drive with these dimensions, I know the one in there is a sony though. So sony slot drive?

What's the connector on the slot drive?
Can you take a picture?

I don't know what kind of connector it is... If you flip it over vertically from this position thats how it goes in. (The laptops upside down, the drive is right side up here)
sorry for the bad pic
