Admittedly, I've never dealt with a situation where someone was trying to return a stolen laptop but it seems as though our strict policy of not sharing customer information might be preventing someone from getting their laptop back.

I clearly must follow the same policy so I can't send you the customer’s information either but I can definitely either pass yours along to them or capture the system and send it from Dell HQ. In order for the servicetag to be labeled as stolen, they must have called in to report it so there should be records of all that here. Again, I really appreciate you wanting to give the system back and I’m sure they’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Hello,

In your post you quote it as written by me. That was actually written by Neil, which no longer works this board.

Edit your post and remove the systems service tag and express service code information. You shouldn’t leave that information up there. Then, pm me directly and I see what I can do to assist you.

Best regards,

Dell charges for passwords????

A legitimate owner has this same problem with a Dell Inspiron 1420. It is not stolen. Dell wants to sell help to her to get her computer back. Frankly, this is not good business!! Ripping off someone who bought the product is not good business. I was going to just buy another hard drive but learned that something on the motherboard is problematic as well.

To my friend her laptop was a waste of money. She cannot use it unless she purchases help from Dell. This comes under my thinking of what company would steal and beguile my grandmother? She just wants the use of the product she purchased. She did not set a password for her HD. Dell will not help.

So far I see that Dell, Sony and Gateway do this? What company does not do this hd mb hidden password gimic???
