3811 3dmarks on 3.0 9100

I just ran the first set of benchmarks on my 9100. With Powerstrip overclocking the 9700 to 504/315, I got 3811... not bad at all, considering it's a 3.0 9100 with 64MB 9700 and 60/7.2k drive.

I tried it at 521/330, but it was artifacting something fierce. I don't know which limit I hit, processor or memory. The 3811 number was after 6 consecutive 3dmark tests with less than a minute in between each.

I'm happy so far, within 250 3dmarks of an XPS that cost over a thousand bucks more... I'll run this for a while until the higher speed processors come down, then stick one in for a nice boost... ah, what the hell, here's a banana.

Well, I just upgraded the ram to 1GB and I ran 3DMark03 five times in a row with the timings at 521/315 via powerstrip. I have also updated the vid card bios.

This time the results are 3862 3DMarks, so it doesn't look like the Bios slowed the cards down much, if at all (I didn't run the benchmark back-to-back with the 512M/1GB configurations, so I can't say for sure what casued the difference between early testing and now...).

From what I've seen of XPS benchmarks, it looks like my lowly 9100 will keep pace or more with the XPS.

One interesting note - I was seeing significant 2D video corruption running powerstrip and aggressive timings with the stock ram (that has a latency of 3.0)... with the new ram (2.5 latency), I have no such corruption.

Which kind of ram did you pick up

A-Data from Newegg, $109 per stick with free shipping... someone else here tried A-Data after having Geil not work, too. Looks like a good fit with the 9100/XPS...

Can you tell me, is this the proper memory for my new 9100?

A-DATA 200 Pin 512MB DDR SO-DIMM PC-3200, Model ADFGB1916 - OEM

so if i bought 2 sticks i would have 1 gig of ram for my 9100?

i bought them too and they work good, cut my load times in half, and made galaxies run 100% better (game is a ram hog)

My Inspiron9100 Benchmark

I got a 3 ghz p4 /2*256 mb pc3200 dual thredded 40 gb 5,2k 9700 64mb.
I have overclocked this baby from 391/263 all the way up to 520/316 with powerstrip and it is completely stable during a session of FarCry.
My 3dMark03 is 3896 points.
Is there no way to bump the core speed over 521 mhz cause i have overclocked all the way up and still feels there is more left in this card.

I got 4021 at 500/300.
is it safe to overclock like that "permanently"? or is it something you do prior to some serious gaming, and then you reset back to the default speeds after you're done gaming?
overclocking isnt advised at all. you just got the machine! dont give dell a good reason to revoke your warrenty dude
post #14 of 15
stupid question but how does one overclock?? I havent done it before and am just curious? Also, where can i pick up 3dmark2003 on a CD since downloading it will take about 10 hours with my lowly 56modem lol

Another day,another dollar

I wish my test would be a whole lot better, I ran 3DMark03 and scored 1653. That is pretty ugly for the 9100, ya its only a 2.8, but ha whats up with that. Tried both Dell drivers and Omega, did a AA disable, did a bio's update, however error appeared something about unknown resource file. Whats next tech guys. Going to order some memory, is there four slots for memory in the 9100 or do I need to buy 2 x 512. Would my 256 fit into my 2.8 4600 from dell. If there is help out there great. This site is great. Life is great,Dell is great,God is great,
