I have about 1400-1600 to spend on a gaiming notebook, I was wondering what you guys think, should i get a used m9700 off of ebay or build my own clevo m570ru http://www.rjtech.com/miva/merchant....ct_Code=M570RU

I'd be using it for gaming, internet, movies, school, downloading

That clevo is a good platform (unlike some other clevos...) and you can get a core 2 duo processor plus top end graphics, but it would depend on the configuration as far as comparing the two laptops.

With only about $1500 to spend though, I'd consider an m5550 as the clevo will quickly become much more expensive for a decent configuration, and the m9700 starts at $1600.

Not sure about buying a used laptop on eBay... Personally, I'd rather have a new m5550 rather than a possibly abused anything...

I agree w/ HH.

the clevo is nice b/c it uses the santa rosa cpu (the most current mobile intel cpu w/ 800mhz vs 667mhz Merom)

I would suggest building a basic setup w/ the clevo, spend the extra bucks on the cpu/gpu & upgrade the ram, hdd, yourself

For a good gaming laptop on a budget I would look at these two companies: www.xoticpc.com and www.powernotebooks.com

They have great prices and great ratings, plus they also have the aforementioned (Clevo) which many companies are now selling, as it looks like a promising system from that company.

I would never buy a lappy off ebay personally.

I would also recommend the 5550i as I have one already and it's a great machine. The 9700 is also quite reasonable and can still handle most current games if you can afford the few extra bucks.

Let us know what you decide.
