Dell Recover Partition

The Dell Recover Partition is a great idea and everything, but is it worth it? I tried creating a new partition on my harddrive to store my music and it won't let me because the drive is all locked up. I want to format the whole drive and start fresh so I can have a seperate partition for my personal files. This means getting rid of the recovery partition. They shipped me an XP installation disc, but no drivers...I can download those. Plus on the recovery partition there is a lot of bloatware. So it seems like a good idea.

I don't think that that would be a good idea to get rid of your dell restore partition, as you may find out, like I have found out, that its a GREAT thing to have. Don't delete it!!!!

Forget the recovery partition, that just wasts space on your HD.

Just make a new backup image using your choice of backup software on an external HD so that when/if you need to revert back to a fresh install stage all you need to do is boot from a boot cd and reload the image on your cheaper/larger external HD to your laptop HD.

Exactly. The Dell Restore partition is just a waste of space. (Good for noobs, though. . . . )

yeah, at the end it will corrupt anyway. So what I did is I got Acronis True Image, did a clean install, installed applications that I would use and did an image then stored it on an another drive for safe keeping. It takes me 10 min to restore the OS with my software...

I agree with most of the posts here... but something to consider is the mobile ninja...

Some folks travel quite a bit and it can be quite the hassle to drag along an ext. hdd or even an entire folder case of DVD's to recover with.

This is the reason I took the time to create the thread detailing the replacement of the system restore image with a custom image.

I personally do not keep anything on cd/dvd anymore, all applications are in .iso format on a ext. WD 250gb HDD and mountable with PowerISO... I am not willing to drag an external hdd with me everywhere I go, and with all the software testing I do, I use CTRL+F11 alot.

Having that custom image within the restore partition has its advantages... If space is a concern, then you will probalby have an external hdd for storage anywyas and the 10-15 gigs will not be a large factor... but then again, if space is a consideration.. the purchase of the ext. hdd will allow for storage of the image files off the local hdd.

Either way is a good solution and I have no problem with anyones choice on this.

Just try to remember that not everyone is a noob just because they do not adhere to your methods of operation.

Just my opinion and $.02.

Can anybody give the folder structure of the dsr partition ofr E1505. I have got a dell gho and i want to verify whether it will be suitable for my E1505. Otherwise somebody please post a link for Dell.gho for E1505 without the fi.gho so that the size will be around 50 to 100MB.
