Still torn between M90 and 1720

Well Im still torn between getting a M90 or Inspiron 1720. The M90 would have the Quadro FX1500M and the 1720 the Geforce 8600GT. I like the fact that the 8600 is DX10 capable, but I've heard that the FX1500 performs a little better. My 1720 would be new, with 1.8 core 2 duo, 1GB ram and 120GB hard drive. Would this setup outperform an M90 with 1.6 core2duo, 1gb ram and 80gb harddrive. This computer would be for gaming and internet. What should I do? Thanks

The 8600 won't even run games in a good condition in DX10. You'd probably enjoy what it looks like to go along the M90 path and sticking to DX9. I don't even have confidence that my 320mb 8800GTS will run the upcoming games...and that is maybe 3-4 times stronger than the 8600GT in laptops.

Ive also been looking at the Alienware m9700 but I hate the looks. would that be a better choice? I just dunno how long it would take for a M90 to go out of date

well, you could alwasy do what I did... get a new job and have the new boss buy you the M90 with 20in. External Display.

Sorry, had to bragg a bit.. the M90 will be a welcome addition to my 2x E1705's....

Well, IMO Alienware is an overpriced brand with pretty bad tech support. They were unwilling to solve any of my problems and seem to leave a bunch of laptop users out to die.

or you could wait for the upcoming model of the m90..

Im just gonna get a current model M90 probably from the outlet. HP makes a workstation thats like the M90 but with DX10, Quadro 1600m in the HP instead of 1500M, but the HP is too overpriced

I just found the Precision M4300, which seems really nice. Its got a Quadro 360 or something like that which has 256 dedicated and 256 shared. Is this laptop DX10? Would I be better off with a M90 with the 1500M? Thanks

The Quadro 360 is an 8400GS. So the M90 would still be faster. An M90 with a 1.6ghz Processor and a gigabyte of ram would have no trouble beating any of the other machines that you have considered so far.

Good luck with that

DX 10 is pretty over-rated right now IMO. I'd rather upgrade to Windows XP and stick with the 7950's

I'm all for the 8800's...DX10 certainly does look good in the previews but I think it's not being used to the fullest yet. I wouldn't say someone should buy/build a desktop that is not DX10 capable...but with laptops the cards are just not performing well. I think one would enjoy a game in DX9 juiced up, rather than a DX10 game with low settings
