I always thought the artifacts on the 8790 were pink...
I just started having problems today, and these appear to be yellow lines...with my black background, they show up as blue..

I get them if I reboot, even during the BIOS startup...

They show up as green lines too..

I will post some pictures...

hopefully that worked

i'm going to email sager also...see what they say...

Ooooh.......That's artifacting alright. You're gonna need a new motherboard if you want a permanent fix for that.

i was afraid of that...i've already tried all the usual fixes....

removing the keyboard, cleaning under the keyboard lifting the metal plate and cleaning the dust from there....

when i replaced the metal piece under the keyboard i purposely left the screws on the left side slightly untightened... ( i read in a different post that this sometimes resolved artifacting issues)

i also cleaned the dust from the fans on the bottom, and from the cpu area..

so anyways, i even tried underclocking my CPU using ATI tools, which does not appear to be helping....

I've only had to RMA my laptop once before, and I believe they replaced the systemboard due to the ethernet jack issue..that was well over a year ago though, so i doubt i'm still covered under any warrantees (laptop was purchased around april 2004)....

if a new motherboard is the only fix....the next question would be is it worth it...hmmm...i'll have to see what they want to charge for that..

sager wrote back to say:

Either the c=video ram or the video chip is bad.
If video ram we can fix it fro $40 + labor $80
If video chip on the motherboard is bad, can't fix need change the
motherboard, since no more new motherboard so need sent your motheboard
to
refurbish the motherboard, it cost $400, have 6 months warranty, need
wait 2
weeks for the refurbish back to us.
If you want sent back for service please give me the unit serial no#
your
return shipping address, tel# and windows password, so I can issue the
RMA#
for you.

I know, hehe, bad english....but I get the idea...now to decide whether i should do it...or maybe search ebay for the parts? hmmmm

i'll tel my story and email you too just in case you dont check...

so it was basically a tossup of whether to spend the money to fix it or not..and i'm so glad that I DID NOT..lol..

if you are paying 400+ for a refurbished motherboard, and these things seem like they ALL start dying after a few years, then who's to say you won't get a board that's just going to die as soon as th warranty is up?

So everything else on my laptop being in great working condition, I threw the sucker on ebay, and scored 400 bucks for it...I was expecting less, but I guess I just did a really nice job explaining my situation and I put together a really nice auction (which I have a talent for..lol)

So anyways, if I had taken all the parts out, I'm sure I would have been able to make at least 250-300..but it's much easier to not have to bother with all that..

So I sold it, shopped around, found a really nice deal on a Dell Vostro 1500 for about 800 bucks which wipes the floor with my old machine, and here i am, back in business...so there's my story, any questions or advice, feel free to ask
