Installing Vista today

i installed vista a few months ago, but didn't like it. now, im willing to try it out again.

just a few questions

32 or 64 bit? i have a core 2 duo processor (dell e1705)

how are the drivers for the 7900 gs? and which one is performing the best? laptopvideo2go is usually where i get my drivers

hows the battery life if i turn off the aero interface and disable a lot of unnecessary vista stuff i don't need? will it perform similarly to xp?

is there anyway to trim the install? its a huge operating system

hows the gaming? i play source battlefield and some older games (eg half life 2)

battery life isn't that bad. I've never compared it to XP really. With my m1710 it was about the same. With my 1420 with integrated graphics my battery life jumps around a lot. Vista will report anywhere from 3hrs to 10hrs

gaming will be better under XP, hands down. But on my m1710, all of those games were definitely playable under vista

I have XP Pro on one HDD and Vista ultimate on the other - you will really need the latest drivers to get any performance from Vista. it looks pretty and all but until SP1 gets released to fix the issues if gaming is your main need stick to XP

BIGEE, don't do it! Stick with XP and your favorite flavor of Linux (or OSX). You'll be much better off and happier with life in general. lol

To be fair about this, Vista does have some nice effects, and certain functions work very well, but overall, IMHO, it runs like a slug in comparison with XP, even with 2 Gigs RAM, processes and startup programs trimmed and stopped, etc.
