OK well I guess it didn't blow up then you're right, it was probably just my mistake and replaced a card that didn't need to be replaced. Sure. I'm still very confused as to why you think you know what's going on here, when you haven't even first hand seen what the problem is or the effects of it. And about you saying that downloing torrents or whatever doesn't effect the temperature, I mean it's summer do you know where I live? No didn't think so. If it's Idle Temp is 10 degree's or higher above normal and it never get's the chance or the opportunity to get back down to normal ranges the extended uses will damage the card over the long haul.Even if you're sitting there just downloading torrents. It really has nothing to do with what the PC is doing it has to do with the overall Temp of the system and the duration at which you choose to stress it. If you never allow your PC to get back to normal temps then it will just simply blow up. And location during the summer can be a cause in itself, it's been a hot one has it not?
I could easily blow my own videocards just by watching Blu Ray movies all day and never resting the PC and having poor ventilation and just constatnly raising the overall temp. And I'm pretty sure that if I allowed mine to go 87-90 and higher everynight (like you claim to do) while watching Blu Rays for hours upon hours it will eventually blow up. Factoring the outside temp as well during these summer months.
I would tell you what the Temps were on his PC, but it wasn't my computer so I don't know. But ever since I moved to an SLI setup I've been checking mine reguarly and babying it like an automobile.
And I hope you never sell your videocard to anyone else on these boards. But then again I don't know much about the 6800 Ultra, and what it can and cannot take. I've always used a 7 series. And I would never allow any of my 7950's to reguarly see 90 degree Celcius, thinking that this is a stable and good Idle Temp. If I game and I reach that, then that's ok, but if I stop gaming and the PC cannot get back down then that is a problem.
